Ashen-faced Russian president Vladimir Putin continues to look non-plussed by all the shenanigans inside the Fisht Olympic Stadium. He slowly claps along as a wall of noise and sea of colour goes off in the arena below him. Perhaps he is still miffed that Russia, despite topping the medal table, did not succeed in his coveted event of ice hockey.

"My sporting highlight, as an old bumps skier, was Alex Bilodeau pulling off the run of the night with his final descent to win the men's moguls final.

"Plus Bode Miller's emotional sixth medal, the GS dominance of Ted Ligety, the ice-cool nerve of rising star Mikaela Shiffrin and the class of Maria Hoefl-Riesch and Tina Maze. Interviewing the legendary Ole Einar Bjoerndalen was a treat, while the grace and fun of the Russian volunteers was a welcome surprise."

A procession of flag-waving athletes stroll out to the beats of 2 Unlimited's 1990s techno classic 'No Limits' - which is quite apt seeing as many of these athletes have continued to push sporting boundaries over the past 16 days. We can just about spot GB gold-medal hero Lizzy Yarnold's big grin in the middle of that pack. What a moment for the 25-year-old from Kent.

Smiling, singing schoolchildren are a staple part of Olympic ceremonies - and here are about 1,000 beaming youngsters from the Pan-Russia Choir proudly singing the Russian national anthem. Stirring stuff. Especially if you're Russian. Although Russia president Vladimir Putin, sat next to gold-medal winning bobsleigh pilot Alexander Zubkov, does not show one hint of emotion. He is made of iron.

A panel of protective glass is spectacularly smashed in the Olympic ice hockey match between Austria and Norway. Austria's Andreas Nodl checks Norway's Jonas Holos into the rinkside barrier, causing a delay in play as shards of an internal glass panel shatter into the penalty box and the rink itself.

Chris Arden: Loved the Winter Olympics, but four medals from a population of 65 million, is it really that good? Slovenia take home 8 medals for their population of just 2 million.

Alistair Williams: living in Austria, could only be the skiing - Anna Fenninger is definately the face of the Games as far as the Austrians are concerned! And of course Matthias Mayer is now going to be an Austrian superstar after winning the 'blue riband' event of the Games, the men's downhill. Not forgetting Mario Matt's brilliance in the slalom!

A huge cheer from the crowd as the performers move into position to form four of the Olympic rings - a self-deprecating laugh at the technical failure which saw just four of the five rings light up at the opening ceremony. But there are no such problems with this performance as the fifth ring appears without a hitch. Then, host nation Russia, who topped the medal table, stroll out into the arena to lap up the acclaim of the home crowd.

    BBC Sport in Sochi

"There are so many highlights from the Winter Olympics but witnessing Jenny Jones' historic snowboard slopestyle bronze medal has to be my personal favourite.

"Having followed her story for the last few years I know just how close she came to quitting the sport before it was drafted into the Olympic programme in 2011; whilst she also had to overcome numerous serious injuries and a near Games-ending concussion just weeks before Sochi.

"At 33 she was six-years older than any of the other finalists and to see Jenny claim a medal - which means so much to her and will inspire thousands of kids in the UK - was emotional to witness."

Great Britain chef de mission Mike Hay on BBC television: "I am proud of the team's achievements, we have competed to the upmost of our ability. I'm delighted with everybody, not just with the medals, but with the number of finals and top half finishes we have had.

"We have won four medals which sets a new standard for us. We have come a long way from Vancouver 2010 where we won just the one medal. The team has a young profile and I believe we can do even better in Pyeongchang in 2018."

Great Britain's Winter Olympics got off to a flying start, in every sense, as Jenny Jones slid, swerved and spun her way to bronze in the women's snowboard slopestyle on the second day of competition. With her team-mate Aimee Fuller screaming her support from the BBC Sport commentary box and the likes of Andy Murray and Jessica Ennis-Hill following on social media, the 33-year-old former chalet maid from Bristol lit up a gloomy Sunday morning and leapt into the hearts of all those who watched.
