What a superb bit of skating by Sven Kramer. He makes it look so easy! It's technically so good. There's still one pair to go but it's going to be worse case, a bronze medal for Kramer! Wow.

  6. Olympic record for defending champion Kramerpublished at 08:53 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2018

    Speed skating: Men's 5,000m final

The Dutch show their speed skating class again. A 1-2-3 in the women's 3,000m on Saturday and now maybe a gold in the men's 5,000m.

Sven Kramer, who has won this event at the past two Winter Olympics, might be making it a treble. He smashes the Olympic record as well. He leads, with only one pairing left. He is guaranteed an Olympic medal, which will be the eighth he has collected.

Both skaters really dug deep in that last lap. It was amazing - a stunning last lap! Having the advantage of having the last inner lane helped Ted-Jan Bloeman. Sverre Lunde Pedersen was just nudged into second place.

  8. So close, but Bloemen moves into gold medal positionpublished at 08:49 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2018

    Speed skating: Men's 5,000m final

You race for 5,000m and then you finish in an almost dead heat on the line. Incredible stuff. That is what we have just seen as Ted-Jan Bloemen and Sverre Lunde Pedersen crossed the line together. In the end, Bloemen of Canada gets the verdict by two thousandths of a second, and he moves into gold, with Norwegian Pedersen in second.

Peter Michael of New Zealand was in first, now he is in third. Next up is reigning Winter Olympic champion Sven Kramer.

  11. 'It's totally out of your control'published at 08:40 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2018

    Snowboarding: Men's slopestyle

British snowboarder Jamie Nicholls, who failed to make the slopestyle final after falling in his second run on day one yesterday, has been speaking to BBC TV. He said: "To make the Olympic team is just a dream come true. I'm just so happy to be here. I was obviously gutted with my score though.

"That's just how things go. It's totally out of your control. You have to deal with the positives. I landed a run which I was happy with and made my friends and family back home proud.

"I thought the course was brilliant too - it was one of the best I've ever ridden. It's a much more creative course than in Sochi (2014 Winter Olympics). It's just unfortunate I didn't make it to the final."

Team-mate Rowan Coultas, who also failed to qualify, added: "It's been amazing. I was gutted I didn't land my run though. The course was really fun to ride. I've still got the big air next week."

Dutchman Jan Blokhuijsen, a silver medallist in this event four years ago, will not be on the podium this time around as he is down in fourth with six racers still to go.

The Netherlands won a gold, silver and bronze in the ladies' 3,000m race yesterday and still have one further hope for gold in this event as reigning Olympic champion Sven Kramer goes in the next pairing.

We have 10 competitors to go and they are all chasing the time set by South Korea's Lee Seung-Hoon, who is currently in the gold medal position.
