  5. Kramer the man to beat?published at 07:55 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2018

    Speed Skating: Men's 5,000m (07:00 GMT)

With 28 world championship gold medals in addition to his three Olympic titles, Sven Kramer is without doubt the biggest name in men's speed skating.

The Dutchman is looking to secure a third-successive Olympic 5,000m crown but the rise of Netherlands-born Canadian Ted-Jan Bloemen could make this his biggest challenge to date.

Bloemen caused controversy in December when - after breaking Kramer's 5,000m world record - he distastefully ripped a printed plastic strip , externalacknowledging the previous record time off a wall before snapping it in front of live television cameras.

    Speed skating: Men's 5,000m final (07:00 GMT)

Five of the 11 pairs have gone in the final and the early leader is Korea's Lee Seung-hoon with Belgian Bart Swings in second.

But some of the main protagonists are still to take to the ice so plenty of time for changes in the leaderboard.

They have taken a break to re-surface the ice at the Gangneung Oval.

Krueger has set his stall out early, it's now up to the rest to deny him of victory.

He clearly feels that going hard with 4km to go is his best chance of getting on that podium and winning this race.

Andrew Musgrave needs to keep driving, he needs to keep believing.
