USA start with a winpublished at 09:49 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2018

Ice Hockey, women's preliminary round: Finland 1-3 USA

Finland, pushing for an equaliser, take their goaltender off and go for all-out attack mode. Not surprisingly, it doesn't work out well with America getting the puck and scoring into an empty goal for a third to kill the match off.

That is the cue for Zombie Nation to blare out around the ice hockey arena. 'Goal music' is not just only for football, you know. The Winter Olympics, on a Sunday morning, is the place to go for some late 1990s trance music.

The USA will be the ones dancing, they start off with a win.

No medals - but all is not lost.

UK Sport chair and five-time Olympic medallist Dame Katherine Grainger has been speaking with BBC Sport’s Nick Hope about the British team’s performances in Pyeongchang so far.

“The last two Olympics I competed in at London 2012 & Rio 2016 we remember now as being hugely successful event but in both it took quite a few days for the medals to start flowing,” she tells BBC Sport.

“We looked at the whole two-week programme and know where our most likely medal chances are to come and knew that although there’s clearly some talent there it was always going to be a quiet few days at the start.

“We believe in the team, but Winter Sport is unpredictable and you never know what’s going to happen on the day.”

  16. I thought I'd get a medal - Musgravepublished at 09:15 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2018

    Cross-country skiing: Men's 15km + 15km skiathlon

    Andrew MusgraveImage source, PA

Scot Andrew Musgrave, who was seventh in the skiathlon - the best ever finish by a Briton in Olympic cross country - believes he should have won a medal.

The 27-year-old had found himself in silver-medal position with only 5km to go in the 30km event.

"I'm a bit disappointed to be honest," he told the BBC, who competes in the 15km freestyle - his favoured event - on Friday.

"When we had a lap-and-a-half to go I was feeling really good and confident. I thought I'd be able to get a medal. I tried to keep up with [eventual winner] Simen Hegstad Kruger and went a little bit hard and slipped back through the field.

"I tried to go at even pace up at the stadium on the last lap. I was hoping some of the other guys would go past but they didn't - it ended up being me out at the front and I couldn’t keep up the pace.

"At least I know I'm in good form. The 15km should be my best event - I should be in a fight for a medal."

There was one man above all others who excelled today.
