It's their first Olympic Games and they both have very different tactics. Josh Cheatham will go from the start but Farrell Treacy likes to sit back and take it all in. He was quite tense in his first race though.

We have got an amazing team and it's very well funded. But in terms of finding talent for the sport, there's not a lot going on.

I would love to see Elise Christie do it. I know what it's like to be in that situation and to handle the pressure. If she can do this, she can do anything.

Choi Min-Jeong is the latest prodigy to roll off the Korean production line. The 19-year-old is already a six-time world champion and has won at every distance this season. The 500m is probably her weakest event but she has been increasing the intensity of her strength workouts in the hope of doing well in Pyeongchang.

And a 500m gold would perhaps mean more than any other because it would come with a bit of history attached. That’s because despite their dominance in the event over the years, South Korea have never won Olympic gold in the women’s 500m – it’s the only short track event in which that is the case. In fact, their surprisingly paltry return from seven editions is two bronzes.

Although Elise Christie didn't get out in front she had so much speed. She was building it up and didn't worry about the people behind her. She went through completely cleanly with lots more speed and it was a perfect execution of an overtake.

It is all about confidence for Elise. She knows she has more speed after being behind someone in the race. There was no panic, no rush and she completely trusted her instincts.

As in men's luge, Germany are the nation to beat in the women's field with Natalie Geisenberger the overwhelming favourite to defend her crown.

Geisenberger, who turns 30 in February, has only finished outside the top two twice in 13 World Cup races this season, with team-mate Dajana Eitberger and the USA's Summer Britcher the only athletes likely to offer any kind of a challenge.
