I really am surprised by the level of uncertainty from some of these top skaters. They seem to be so nervous they are holding back! They are not taking the initiative of the race and taking it to the other skaters. It's almost like they don't really want to get to the front!

Mark Bazeley: Now I'm no expert, but it seems to me that the best tactic for speed skating is to stay at the back and wait for your opponents to wipe each other out in the inevitable last-lap crash...
Women's final
Natalie Geisenberger has dominated her sport since 2013, when she won her first overall World Cup title – she’s won all five since then, including this year to set a new record of six. Having won bronze in 2010, the Bavarian police officer arrived in Sochi with high expectations – and delivered. The seven-time world champion was fastest in all four legs, winning by a massive 1.139 seconds. She followed up with another gold in the team relay.
She leads at the moment too. Gold rush?
It all got out of hand earlier on when Austrian Matthias Mayer took out a cameraman and a coach after an unfortunate crash during the men's combined event at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

It's a very fast race. There was lost of passing and lots of movement. Lim Hyojun of Korea looks very comfortable and relaxed it seems. These skaters don't really seem to be performing to their full potential.

Real drama there with Shaoang Liu and Ryosuke Sakazume hitting the deck! But it means Farrell Treacy is through to the semi-final.
