    From Olympic devastation to elation

“It’s been an amazing experience and just unbelievable,” new Olympic ski-cross champion Brady Leman tells me.

The Canadian crashed out of the final at Sochi 2014 - to finish fourth - but came through four brutal knock-out clashes to land the sport’s ultimate prize today.

“Right now I’m struggling to comprehend what’s happened because in this sport anything can happen - as I experienced four years ago.

“To win this today means the world - it proves that all the hard work was worth it and I’m so proud to get a medal for my country.”

    USA 6-4 Great Britain

    Steve Cram

The men weren't necessarily fancied so much to make it to the semi-finals. They wouldn't have said that themselves, they felt they had a great chance and they've put themselves in a good position to progress. They would be disappointed not to clinch this now - they wouldn't be eliminated with defeat but they would have to come back for a tie-break as results stand at the moment.

One it is. GB further behind. They are three ends to turn this one around or we may have to start doing some maths. We could end up with four teams tied on five wins, with only three of them able to go through.

Big cheers come from the home crowd as South Korea move 7-3 ahead of Japan on sheet D.

Japan are one of five teams still in with a shot for one of three remaining play-off places, along with GB, USA, Canada and Switzerland.

Midway through this seventh end, US with the final-stone advantage and the chance to stretch their lead. GB, though, are the only team with stones near the centre - two of them.

Remember, a GB win would secure a semi-final spot. The could even go through with a defeat.

A very good effort from the sweepers to get the one. It's not the two they would have liked but, nonetheless, Great Britain reduce that deficit.

It needed a decent sweep, but the final GB stone just creeps close enough to the button. Britain close the gap, but a one-point return is never satisfactory from your hammer. The US will have the chance to extend their lead with the hammer in the seventh end.

  13. 'Curling and farming are similar'published at 06:29 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2018

    USA 5-3 Great Britain

    Rob Hatch
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 live

It is a family affair. There are brothers and sisters in the men's and women's teams. Kyle Smith, his brother Cammy Smith are in there for the men, who also have Thomas Muirhead and alternate Glen, the brothers of Eve Muirhead.

A lot of the team are farmers, who are used to waiting for things to happen. The strategy is very similar in curling.

Eve Muirhead believes Great Britain are on good enough form to win a medal again in Pyeongchang 2018 after securing a semi-final place.

The Scottish skip guided her team to a 6-5 win over the reigning Olympic champions Canada to ensure their progress.

They now await the identity of their semi-final opponents, which will be determined in Wednesday’s final round-robin matches.

“I feel like we’re on great form and what’s really important is the last few games we’ve got better and better,” she told BBC Sport.

“I do believe we’ve got another couple of gears to go up, but as a team I’m really pleased with where we are.”

This one is back-and-forth. The US, previously in disarray, have three yellow stones surrounding the button when the final stone of the fifth end is played. GB head off the rink for a half-time banana. Remember, if they win this they are definitely through to the semi-finals.
