The massive bit of metal, looking like something you might dig your garden with, confirms that the Canadians take a pair of points. GB might feel that they've had a little let-off there, though. They have the hammer in end three.

It is an incredible venue with the ski jump on one end and big air at the other with fans either side to create a bowl of noise. Where the snowboarders land is actually a football pitch in the summer! It’s still early morning here so the place is still filling up but the DJ has already got the tunes rocking. Can’t beat a bit of Guns n Roses to get you going in a morning!

As a reminder, the boarders gets two runs apiece, with their best score counting. The top six from each heat qualify for the final. Britain's Rowan Coultas is 17th out of the 18 men to go in this first heat.

The snowboarders are going through their final practice jumps before the competition starts. I’ve not seen any crashes but I’ve heard a few cries of frustration from a couple of the riders as they haven’t quite got their jump right.

    Men's big air qualification

    Anna Thompson
    BBC Sport in Pyeongchang

After big air made its impressive debut on Monday with the women's qualification, now it's the turn of the men.

With only six men from each heat going through to the finals, they will have to pull out their best tricks from the outset.

But there is some chat that although the jump is almost five-metres high, it's not huge and is one metre smaller than the one built for the test event here in November 2016.

It means that there might not be enough air time for the snowboarders to attempt their biggest tricks - I'm talking quad cork 1800, the one which British snowboarder Billy Morgan was the first to achieve.

We'll see soon enough as the competition starts at 00:30 GMT.

Great Britain don't get the two they would have liked. It was a reasonably straight forward end with few mistakes, so for Great Britain it's not disastrous but perhaps not what they might have hoped for.

The three Brits who competed in slopestyle are all back again for the big air.

Jamie Nicholls is the first to drop in the first heat, along with Rowan Coultas, who goes 17th out of the 18 starters.

In heat two, Billy Morgan goes 12th. He's got an ear infection, which isn't great when you're spinning upside down!

Not heard of, or seen, big air before?

    Incredible stuff.

Boarders head down a 49m ramp, fly into the air, perform their best trick and try to stick a landing.

    Now, about those Britons...
