    Mixed doubles semi-final

Not long now until the curling mixed doubles semi-final featuring the British pairing of Jen Dodds and Bruce Mouat.

From 12:05 GMT they take on Norway, who beat the British duo 6-2 in the group stage on Sunday.

A win would guarantee Britain's first medal of the Beijing Games.

Despite the defeat against the Norwegians, Dodds and Mouat qualified for the last four with a game to spare and finished off their group-stage campaign with an 8-4 win over the USA earlier today.

"It was our best team performance of the week and exactly the way we want to go into the semi-finals," Mouat said.

Italy, who won all seven of their group matches, take on Sweden in the other semi.

The mixed team event is making its Olympic debut today, but it's nothing new in the world of ski jumping.

It made its World Cup debut in 2012, and first featured at the World Championships the following year.

It takes place on the normal hill, and each team consists of four athletes - two women and two men. They compete in the order of woman-man-woman-man.

What are you planning for lunch? A baked potato? Soup and a sandwich?

That wouldn't be enough to fuel Canadian cross-country skier Remi Drolet, who is consuming the equivalent of almost two dozen plates of pasta a day in order to compete at the Winter Olympics.

"I have something to eat every 15-20 minutes," he adds. "Just to make sure my muscle glycogen is as full as possible. Time just disappears from you, because you're always eating."

  5. Woods' presence can make differencepublished at 11:00 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2022

James Woods did not qualify for the big air final earlier but what about his chances in the slopestyle?

He has a chance. He's almost at the sunset of his career. But he is one of those people, his presence in the start gate alone is going to add pressure to everyone else there.

He's got a lot of tricks that other people don't have, maybe not the big spins but he's still go a lot of firepower and he can make his presence felt.

"I knew I only had one chance left in my career to get a medal in the Olympics," said Clarey after being edged out by Switzerland's Beat Feuz.

"When you are a medallist, whether you are 20 or 41 it doesn't matter."

Ellia Smeding earlier became Team GB's first female long track speed skater at the Winter Olympics in 42 years.

And she has been reflecting on her achievement and debut at the Games.

“There are things that maybe could have gone a bit better, but I am just super excited to now officially be an Olympian and (to have) represented Great Britain for the first time in 42 years," she said.

“I still have the 1000m in 10 days, and it’s nice to have this race (today’s 1500m) to learn.

"What is the setting? How am I going to feel the external pressures and get used to that? Hopefully I can use this experience that I have got now to put on an even better race.”

Apparently the Canadians managed to overcome the delay to the start of their match against the Russian Olympic Committee earlier by dancing.

Asked how they stayed in tip-top shape, forward, Brianne Jenner said: "We danced. I'm not kidding.

"We were just focused on staying prepared, staying loose in the room. We didn't know when the puck was going to drop, we just wanted to stay ready."

That was certainly a knockout blow from Ireen Wust and what a blow it was.

An Olympic record, half a second inside the previous Olympic record and almost half a second in front of the second-placed skater.

She said, 'I've got nothing to lose, I'm going to set an extremely good time and I'm going to let the rest of the people try and beat that time' and she's done exactly that.
