Eve Muirhead's British curling rink lost their opening match at the Winter Olympics in a tense extra end against world champions Switzerland.

Muirhead needed to draw to the button for victory with the last stone but overthrew to give the Swiss victory.

Muirhead, Vicky Wright, Jen Dodds, and Hailey Duff had been in control at 4-2 after seven ends but could not punish more Swiss errors and were pegged back.

They next face defending champions Sweden at 12:05 GMT.

Before that, Bruce Mouat's rink start their round-robin fixtures against Italy at 06:05 in the men's competition.

Olympic gold medallist curler on BBC TV

That will hurt. Britain did control the game and they will be bitterly disappointed.

They have to take the positives about how well they did play throughout the game and take that into the rest of the eight round robin games they’ve got to play.

There’s a long way to go and they did play well.

Curling - Great Britain 5-6 Switzerland

    Steve Cram
    Curling commentator on BBC TV

It’s too long. That means Switzerland get the win and that is hugely disappointing.

It had too much weight and after having struggled all the way through you can see what that means to the Swiss, they have managed to somehow grasp the victory.

Four years ago, Chloe Kim threw her gold medal in the bin as she struggled to deal with the fame and pressure that accompanied becoming Olympic champion.

"I won't be doing that again," she tells a press conference.

She then asks if anyone has any snacks and several members of the press rush forward with offerings. I hope one of the mini strawberry swiss rolls on offer in the press centre was among them because they are seriously good.

We're getting to the business end of the figure skating.

Defending champion Yuzuru Hanyu is among the group currently warming up on the ice.

He's actually had a little tumble and didn't seem too happy about it. Remember on Tuesday he blamed a 'hole' in the ice for the fact he missed his opening jump.

We'll soon find out if that has rattled him - four more skaters before it's his turn.
