  8. 'Britain have to stay positive'published at 03:25 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2022

Curling - Great Britain 5-4 Switzerland (after nine ends)

    Steve Cram

If Switzerland can get their two they will come out victorious.

Britain have to stay positive here, they had a chance in the eighth to put themselves in an excellent position and that slipped by them.

Curling - Great Britain 5-4 Switzerland

    Thomas Duncan

The Swiss hold the cards here with the hammer in the final end. Score one, and it's an extra end in game one.

Anything more and they'll snatch victory. That last end was a big missed opportunity for GB.

  10. What next, the quint?!published at 03:20 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2022

Figure skating - men's free skating

    Sonia Oxley
    BBC Sport in Beijing

So, we've been focusing on Yuzuru Hanyu's impending attempt at the never-done-before quadruple axel... but someone else is dreaming even bigger.

This next skater, Italian Daniel Grassl, has talked about wanting to become the first skater to land a quintuple jump one day.

1980 Olympic champion and BBC commentator Robin Cousins is not impressed though as figure skating is about more than just the jumps.

“Before you start doing five, start fixing the rest of it first, get it all to catch up with itself,” Cousins said. “That is not at this point going to win you a championship.

“Someone coming on with an additional quint [alongside five quads] is not going to do it because someone else has got those same five quads but in combination with beautiful aesthetics without the panic of will-I-won’t-I-get-another-element."

“Eventually that might change but I will be long gone!”

Chloe Kim won snowboard halfpipe gold with incredible ease to retain her Winter Olympic title from 2018.

Unbeaten since 2019, the 21-year-old American blew her competition away with a 94.00 score on her opening run.

Such was her lead, Kim attempted 1260s - never before landed in women's halfpipe competition - on her second and third runs but fell both times.

Spain's Queralt Castellet won silver with 90.25 while Japan's Sena Tomita took the bronze medal with 88.25.

In Pyeongchang four years ago, Kim - then just 17, became the youngest woman to win an Olympic snowboarding gold medal.

But in the aftermath of her success, she struggled with the pressures and fame that accompanied it, and later took 19 months away from the sport in 2019-20 and enrolled at Princeton University in New Jersey.

That’s a big opportunity missed by Eve Muirhead. That is a pity.

She needs to put it behind her.

It’s given Switzerland a ‘get out of jail free’ card.
