Women's curling: Sweden 0-0 Great Britain

Cagey start in the opening end. Eve Muirhead points to where she thinks Britain's third-from-last stone will end in the house and she's right.

Sara McManus - the Swedish Scot - knocks that out of the way in the next throw. Looks to be heading for a blank opening end.

The final event on on the National Speed Skating Oval ice is the women's 5000m final and it is a blockbuster with a cast more star-studden than a Tarantino flick

We have got Russian world-record holder and PyeongChang 2018 bronze medallist Natalia Voronina in the field, along with Vancouver 2010 champion Czech Martina Sabilkova, who won silver four years ago.

But the favourite might be Dutch world champion Irene Schouten, who has shown her form by already bagging 3000m gold in Beijing.

By the way, her family run an international tulip business. Speed skating and tulip farming, about 11/10 on the Dutch-o-meter.

The wind is swirling over at Genting Snow Park, in a discipline decided by air, form and landing.

Alexandra Baer gets us under way in the final four but the Swiss athlete struggles to nail her landing. It's a 57.01 which is a bit lower than in the first round.

Canada's Marion Thenault scores 62.74 despite taking a tumble as she lands. Will Canada v Switzerland be the fight for bronze?

Swedish player Sara McManus has a very Scottish-sounding name, and it's because her dad is former footballer Stuart McManus.

Originally from Falkirk, he had spells at Southampton and Newport County, before a lengthy career in Scandinavian football.

His daughter already has an Olympic gold, so she's probably one-upped him there.

  8. 'We can take a lot of positives'published at 11:58 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2022

Women's curling: Sweden v Great Britain (12:05 GMT)

Eve Muirhead, in her fourth Games and aiming to replicate Britain's glory in 2002, was in a bullish mood after the defeat by the Swiss.

"As much as it was a loss on the scoreboard, we can take a lot of things that keep us positive," said the Scot.

"We do have a good record against Sweden but we know it's not going to be easy - they are the Olympic champions.

"We had a very tight game against them in the Europeans, and I know it's going to be tight."

  9. Brits looking to bounce backpublished at 11:55 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2022

Women's curling: Sweden v Great Britain (12:05 GMT)

British skip Eve Muirhead and the team of Vicky Wright, Jen Dodds, and Hailey Duff lost 6-5 to world champions Switzerland as their match went to a tense extra end.

The quartet had earlier had led 4-2 with three ends remaining, but lost to the double world champions.

They failed to capitalise on Swiss errors, and Muirhead's final shot in the extra end drifted agonisingly long.

  11. A new Olympic sport...published at 11:48 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2022

Knitting is popular with the Olympians but the pastime hasn't made it into the Games just yet.

Would it be classed as a summer or winter sport?!

Stanislav Nikitin is given the job of trying to help the Russian Olympic Committee through.

He puts in a solid enough jump which scores 119.03 but it won't be enough to put a Q next their name on the leaderboard.

The Russians are out. Bit of a shock that.

That means China, the United States, Canada and Switzerland are the four qualifiers for the second stage of the final: when the medals are dished out.

  14. Grudge matchpublished at 11:38 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2022

Women's curling: Sweden v Great Britain (12:05 GMT)

    Thomas Duncan
    BBC Scotland in Beijing

This women's curling tie is a bit of a grudge match, with skips Eve Muirhead and Anna Hasselborg veterans of the game who have done battle many times over the years.

This GB rink - who were then playing as Scotland - beat Sweden in the final of the European Champs back in December.

But Hasselborg's rink are the defending Olympic champions and multiple title winners, with their skip considered by many to be the GOAT of women's curling.

    Should be fascinating.

Curling has captured the imagination of many in recent years, with makeshift rinks set up on polished kitchen floors during Games and even Mr T professing his love for the sport.

Today, it is again the centre of our attention.

After both the men and women played earlier (more on that shortly in case you missed it), Eve Muirhead and the team will be back on the ice soon...

Pirmin Werner changed his run there and did five twists in total for a maximum of 150 points on offer.

  20. Chen 'Rockets' to victorypublished at 11:20 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2022

Earlier there was redemption for American Nathan Chen in the men's Olympic figure skating.

The relief was clear for the 22-year-old American, who finally won the gold which he was expected to claim in 2018.

Performing to Elton John's Rocket Man, the American nailed his jumps in a performance that was as fun as it was technically superb.

Since his disappointment four years ago, Chen has gone on to dominate the sport, winning three world championships in a row before finally getting his hands on Olympic gold.

Read and watch how Chen ended his four years of hurt.
