Austria - Canada - Italy - Great Britain... in that order.

Huw Nightingale in fourth is 1.5 seconds adrift but our trusted BBC commentary team explain that is a margin that Charlotte Bankes can claw back.

    No pressure Charlotte...

The combination of the format and the conditions is giving us a totally open field, what brilliant racing for the neutral.

The visibility here really isn't great. The snow is heavy with some really thick flakes.

Huw Nightingale and Charlotte Bankes will put it down for all things sacred - fish & chips, gravy dinner, the White Cliffs, etc.

Austria, Canada's second team and Italy's second team make up this quarter-final.

Remember it's a male run, then a female run staggered based on the male time.

Two of the four teams will progress.

    We go...

So then, quarter-final four... Great Britain... let's be having you...

Leg two, quarter-final three, Canada well clear because of leg one, so who will go through with them?

What is happening here, the Russian Olympic Committee team are hounding down Canada's Meryeta Odine. This is absurd. They'll take her out here.... yes.

What a run by Kristina Paul, she puts Canada into second and the two teams make it into the semi-finals.

  7. Testing conditions...published at 02:28 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2022

Now I'm no expert but it would help to be able to see where you're going in this event.

We have another faller in quarter-final three. American Jake Vedder hit the deck but he bounced back up. If he doesn't finish then his team-mate can't compete on leg two of course....

Canada home in first, the Russian Olympic Committee and Vedder home second and third. Their teams will start 3.96 seconds behind Canada on leg two.

The competition is being held as Australia's Belle Brockhoff receives medical treatment following her fall.

She is currently being brought down on a stretcher.

The athletes are going so fast. They’re riding the very fastest, stiffest snowboards money can buy. They’re racing absolutely flat out.

It’s hard to appreciate as a viewer how fast they are going and the distances they are jumping.

One of the fallers in quarter-final two - Australia's Belle Brockhoff - needs medical attention on the snow so we're all a little paused for breath.

I'll keep you updated but what we know in terms of competition is we've had two quarter-finals so far and Great Britain compete in the fourth.

So far USA, Switzerland, Italy and Germany are all through.

The two Australian teams in quarter-final two are wiped out and USA - brought home by a stylish Lindsey Jacobellis leg, take the tape from Switzerland.

The snowfall is causing them a few issues out there as it's coming down heavily.

Wow. Just 0.58 seconds splits the four teams on the first leg of the second quarter-final.

That means the women's leg will be as tight as it gets. USA's Lindsey Jacobellis has Olympic gold in the locker and surely she's the one to watch here. She starts 0.22 seconds behind Australia's Belle Brockhoff...

Right, back to the top of the slope and the women go. The German athlete will get that mini head start, the French athlete in third will be way down. This reminds me of Gladiators back in the day.

"Contender, you will go on my first whistle."

Ah the 90s. I miss the travellator.

Italy well clear, Michela Moioli gets it done three seconds ahead of Germany's Jana Fischer.

Both go to the semi-finals, France eliminated.

I spotted Charlotte Bankes chatting with a coach on my walk to the press centre this morning.

Thought I'd managed to sneakily grab a photo, but apparently not. Look closely and they're both staring right at me.

  18. Snowboard cross relay quarter-finalpublished at 02:05 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2022

Quarter-final one kicks off, Germany, Italy and France...the French having an early nightmare.

Great Britain will be in quarter-final four. Germany home from Italy, Martin Noerl getting it done for the Germans and now the women will race using the men's finishing times to establish their time handicap. This is decent stuff...

The snowboard cross mixed team event is making its Olympic debut today, but how does it work?

It starts with 16 teams - of one man and one woman - who each race once per round.

The men race first, all starting together as per the individual event. Once their race has finished and their times confirmed, the start gates open for the women’s race – but each woman’s starting time depends upon the time registered by her team-mate.

So, for example, if the male rider from team A wins his race by 0.5 secs, his female team-mate will begin 0.5 secs ahead of the second-placed team.

    Got it?
