Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No it's Japan's Ryoyu Kobayashi...

Not content with his gold already secured from the normal hill event, the 25-year-old has just laid down the gauntlet in the first round of large hill.

He sailed through the night sky, covering a massive 142m and at the halfway stage sits on 147 points after the judges scoring is taken into account.

Norway's Marius Lindvik is second on 144.8. The second jumps come next with the scores combined.

A little bit of ice resurfacing now... a couple of men are on their hands and knees patting little pieces of ice into the surface with some sort of flat metal tool.

At this stage of the competition Finnish couple Juulia Turkkila and Matthias Versluis are leading the way and have definitely booked their place in the free dance.

What’s the difference between pairs and ice dance? A lot of people coming to this once every four years wonder this…

Ice dance has no jumps or overhead lifts! It’s all about steps, sequences, choreography and… twizzles. That’s not the fried turkey things that Jamie Oliver didn’t like a few years ago.

Twizzles are rotations on one foot while travelling across the ice.

Russia. A case of suspected doping. Announced at an Olympics where the country is already banned for doping. A child involved.

    Could it sound any worse?

The revelation that 15-year-old figure skater Kamila Valieva failed a drugs test before Beijing 2022 has put the Games under a black cloud, swinging the spotlight away from sport and once again on a dark subject that simply will not go away.

There are now questions over timelines regarding the matter, a legal case under way, uncertainty over medals won - and that is without even considering the wider damage to the credibility of anti-doping measures and the welfare of a young athlete.

So, how have we got here and what happens next? Read more here.

The International Olympic Committee says it would welcome an anti-doping investigation into Kamila Valieva's "entourage" after the 15-year-old Russian's positive drugs test.

The case of a child testing positive for angina drug trimetazidine has prompted questions from many over the role played by the adults around her.

"Entourage has been overlooked in the past," IOC spokesman Mark Adams told a news conference on Saturday.

"Entourage ranges from doctors and coaches, parents everyone."

At one point she paused and appeared to be in tears as she shared a lingering embrace with her coach Tutberidze.
