Of six gold medals to be won today, four have now been settled.

First, Lindsey Jacobellis won her second gold in Beijing, this time winning the inaugural snowboard cross mixed team title alongside United States team-mate Nick Baumgartner.

Then, the Russian Olympic Committee won the cross-country skiing women's team relay, ahead of Germany and Sweden.

Moments ago, China's Tingyu Gao won host nation China's fourth gold of the Games with an Olympic record time in the speed skating men's 500m.

And Norway's Johannes Thingnes Boe has just added to his Biathlon 20km bronze with gold in the men's sprint.

Still to be decided? The men's ski jumping large hill individual and the women's skeleton.

  2. Norway join Germany at top of medal tablepublished at 10:19 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2022

That gold for Johannes Thingnes Boe in the biathlon men's 10km sprint takes Norway to the top of the medal table.

It's their seventh gold of the Games and 15th medal overall, while bronze for Tarjei Boe takes their total to 16.

Germany, who also have seven golds but only 12 medals, are knocked down into second.

  3. Panda-monium at the Gamespublished at 10:19 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2022

Nothing to see here, just the extremely popular official mascot, Bing Dwen Dwen, holding a mid-Games press conference.

Such is its huge popularity in China, organisers have had to increase the supply of merchandise relating to the panda-in-a-full-body-ice-shell, with many people queuing overnight, external outside shops to get their hands on one.

I wonder what it needed to get off its chest?

Possibly had something to say on accessibility.

  4. Boe brothers win gold and bronzepublished at 10:12 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2022

It's all smiles for the Boe brothers in the mixed zone. A few athletes are still to finish but they're not going to threaten the medals.

Johannes Thingnes has previously described older brother Tarjei as a "big role model".

"If it was not for Tarjei, first of all I would not do the biathlon sports, but for sure if I did, I would have quit when I was 16," he said in 2019.

Gold and bronze... Not a bad day out for the family.

What a day for the Boe family!

Not only has Norway's Johannes Thingnes Boe won biathlon gold in the men's 10km sprint, his older brother Tarjei has taken the bronze.

With just one miss with the rifle and some rapid skiing, Johannes Thingnes set a pace time of 24 minutes 0.4 seconds early on and no-one could beat it.

France's Quentin Fillion Maillet, gold medal winner in the 20km event, has to settle for silver.

Tingyu Gao went in as the favourite and he really put down his performance.

It was an untouchable start, nobody was going to catch him after that.

It is really important for the home nation to really perform and it's under huge pressure, but Gao brought it on the day.

Britain's Cornelius Kersten ended up finishing 25th out of the 30 skaters, by the way.

The 500m is not the specialist event of the self-funded Brit, who runs a coffee business with fellow skater and girlfriend Ellia Smedling.

The 1,000m is more his cuppa. That takes place on Friday and he'll be hoping to finish higher up the leaderboard.

Tingyu Gao's triumph was sealed when neither of the final pairing could topple his new Olympic record.

Canada's Laurent Dubreuil came the closest but just missed out of the podium.

Korea's Min-Kyu Cha had to settle for another silver medal, four years after finishing second in Pyeongchang.

    How the leaders finished:

1 Tingyu Gao (Chi) 34.32 OR

    2 Min-Kyu Cha (Kor) 34.39 +0.073

    3 Wataru Morishige (Jpn) 34.49 +0.174

    4 Laurent Dubreuil (Can) 34.522 +0.205

    5 Piotr Michalski (Pol) 34.524 +0.206

    6 Jun-ho Kim (Kor) 34.54 +0.22

For the first time ever China have gold in one for the speed skating events in the long track competition.

Tingyu Gao a bronze medallist four years ago in Pyeongchang has won gold in Beijing.

What a big moment for the Chinese team.

    GOLD FOR CHINA!

Sensational scenes as Tingyu Gao clinches victory. There is an explosion of emotion from the 24-year-old, who jumps off his seat and is mobbed by the Chinese support staff.

A massive roar quickly follows when the crowd see the result confirmed on the big screen.

Two down. Japan's Wataru Morishige is quick - but not as quick as China's frontrunner Tingyu Gao.

There is a huge cheer when it flashes up that Morishige is into the bronze position, probably because he's not usurped the home hero.

Gao is guaranteed a medal now. But will it be better than the bronze he won four years ago?

Chinese leader Tingyu Gao can barely watch. He's sat on a bench at the side of the track, fiddling his fingers with some tape.

A nervous wait for the lad. Two pairs left means there are four potential gold-medal winners to go...

Oooh! There's a slip. Going into the bend with 200m to go, Ignat Golovatsiuk stutters.

Is that on the part of the course where there was a problem with the ice? Think it is.

Looking at the replay though, seems to be a mistake by the Belarusian skater rather than anything caused by the surface.

There are shattered biathletes scattered around the finish line.

This may be a sprint but it is still a gruelling event including 10km of cross-country skiing.

Norway's Johannes Thingnes Boe has already won gold in the biathlon mixed relay. He has just finished his effort in his bid for a second and has a 25.5-second lead as it stands.

There are many more athletes to come but that will be very, very tough to beat.

France's Quentin Fillion Maillet, the gold medal winner from the 20km event, is in second.

Norway's Haavard Holmefjord Lorentzen - definitely a copy and paste job - won four years ago.

This time, he's well off the pace.

A slow start proves costly and Lorentzen can't claw back the deficit. He misses the podium.

China's Tingyu Gao still leads after setting that new Olympic record.

    Four pairs to go...

Dutch skater Merijn Scheperkamp has a touch of Barcelona footballer Frenkie de Jong about him. That explains his nickname 'Frenkie' then.

De Jong might be the future of Barca, but is Scheperkamp the future of speed skating? Not sure. But he's not going to be the present.

It's a very good run by the Dutchman, but only enough for third spot - for now - after that lightning-quick previous heat.
