    Men's giant slalom

The men's giant slalom second run has been pushed back to 07:00 GMT because of conditions.

It's going to be frighteningly tight. Norway's Henrik Kristoffersen is fourth after run one.

I just read that he's very much a motocross fan. “It’s great cardio and muscle training, especially for the core muscles,” explained the Norwegian. "And it trains balance as well as coordination – basically everything I need for skiing.”

Is sending yourself down a mountain on skis not enough? Should a bit of knitting or maybe a spot of gardening not be on the agenda to balance things out?

That man loves him some adrenaline.

  2. Falkingham delivers...published at 05:25 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2022

Earlier we found an image of a stunning snowman at the Games and we challenged our very own Katie Falkingham to make one in the freezing conditions.

She says she opted for a snow panda and it's an extremely neat effort I think you'll agree.

Kudos to Katie. A hero of the live-text service.

There are thousands of journalists and broadcasters from all over the world covering these Games and sometimes you need a bit of downtime.

There are eight sleep pods in the media centre in Beijing and have been in use every time I’ve been to see them.

It’s making me feel sleepy although I’m not sure how much slumber I’d get if I knew others were gawping and taking pictures!

  4. Slopestyle competitions pushed back a daypublished at 05:07 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2022

The ski slopestyle competitions have been pushed back a day after the heavy snow up at the Genting Snow Park caused the cancellation of women's qualification on Sunday.

That will now take place on Monday - featuring GB's Kirsty Muir and Katie Summerhayes - with the top 12 making the finals on Tuesday.

The men's qualification - with James Woods going for GB - is now scheduled for Tuesday, with the finals on Wednesday.

    Sorted!

It barely snows in Beijing with February averaging fewer than half an inch of the white stuff.

So it was a pleasant surprise to see big thick flakes in the Chinese capital on Sunday at the Winter Olympics.

And by the looks of it, it is a month’s snowfall in one day!

Earlier we told you about the ex-DJ competing for Jamaica in the giant slalom.

He got himself through run one admirably and is 54fth in the field. There were 54 finishers for run one, from 89 initial starters.

Benjamin Alexander of Jamaica clocked 1:37.94, around 35 seconds off leader Marco Odermatt. No one can take away his status as an Olympian though.

    We salute you!

USA on the brink of exit...published at 04:20 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2022

Olympic champions USA lost 10-5 to Canada in men's curling earlier.

They now have two wins from five games. There are four games left to play but it's looking like they may need to win all four to stand any chance of defending their title.

Four of the 10 teams in the round robin go through. USA take on China later today. It's must win!

GB skip Bruce Mouat is satisfied with their morning's work.

"We enjoyed that game," he said. "It was different to other games we've played, there were a lot of hits.

"It felt like they didn't want to take us on. We're a very good drawing and tapping sort of team so I can understand why they didn't do that.

"It was just nice to get that four in the second end. That kind of relaxed things and we knew we were in a good, confident position from there."

Is anyone going to stop Kaillie Humphries?

After two runs she now has a huge 1.04-second advantage over second-placed Canadian Christine de Bruin.

Germany's Laura Nolte is third (1.22 behind Humphries), with Elana Meyers Taylor in fourth (a further 0.1 behind that).

They will be back on Monday for the final two heats that will decide the medals.

Humphries surely has one hand on the gold already.

    Men's giant slalom

Norway's Henrik Kristoffersen elects to use an expletive when describing how little he could see on his first run in the men's giant slalom.

He's one of the big fancies and clocked 1:03.05, leaving him fourth with a second run to come.

"The snow is a little uneven, so it's quite aggressive in spots, a little slick," he says.

"I think it was difficult for everyone."

On whether it was safe to race he says: "Definitely. The light is more than skiable, that's for sure, it just makes it difficult."

My maths tells me that so far:

    • 42 men made it to the bottom of the giant slalom on run one
    • 31 men did not finish the course in these testing conditions
    • 16 are left to attempt run one.

    Yikes.

    'I'm really impressed'published at 03:37 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2022

    China 6-7 Great Britain

    Jackie Lockhart
Four-time Olympic curler on BBC TV

A very comprehensive win from Great Britain. You a play a different finish to a game when you know you don’t need to score and just have to eliminate your opponent’s shot.

I’m really impressed by this four-man team.

They’ve played in lots of international championships and they’re experienced enough to take this win, build on it and I’ve got high hopes they will reach the play-offs.

Against Denmark, on paper, GB are for sure the much stronger team. But of course, Denmark are here and have got nothing to lose. Everybody is capable of beating everybody.
