You can see the pine bows there (on the landing), they're bits of Christmas tree chopped up and thrown down onto the landing hill to give you some contrast. So you're not just jumping from the black sky into a white background. They give you a bit of depth perception.

It’s going to be fine margins between being in the mix and being four or five places back, but it’s all down to hundredths of a second. There's a few bits for Brad Hall to tidy up there, don’t let your head drop down you’ve got to fight for it Brad, fight for those next three runs.

Germany's Francesco Friedrich has been outstanding all season so it is no surprise to see him go into the lead in the first heat with a track record.

He's followed by fellow German Johannes Lochner and the Russian Olympic Committee's Rostislav Gaitiukevich.

Brad Hall shakes his head as he comes across the line, he's not happy with his first run. The GB sled did lose a bit a speed at the bottom and he's 0.67 seconds off the lead. It's only the first run of four but he needs to clean it up in his second run to remain in medal contention.

Brad Hall has already had some success on this Yanqing track.

He took silver in the Olympic test event in the two-man bobsleigh alongside Greg Cackett.

    Confidence is high.

“The last couple of years we have had a lot of bad luck but this year has been the first time we have actually been able to see our potential and have a clean run into the season,” said.

“We started the season with a silver medal at the Olympic test event then our first World Cup weekend we won two medals and from then we won a few more so it’s been a massive confidence boost, not just winning medals but consistently winning medals, which was our main aim of the season to prepare for the Olympics.”
