Paul M: Slopestyle is bonkers. And terrifyingly impressive. Can't imagine how competitors even "build up" to being able to do it.

I get you Paul. How on earth do you know you'll be good at it without risking several fractures?

Very solid run, that is how you do it on the Olympic stage under a lot of pressure.

What a statement - she took a big risk up at the top, there were a couple of execution issues but what is lovely to see is that she's spinning in different directions. This run has been built to tick all of the boxes.

    A long way to go...

It's really interesting to watch Eileen Gu go through the motions before her run, really taking her time to visualise what she's about to do. That's the sport psychology in my degree coming out of me there!

It works. A nice opening run from China's 'snow princess' scores her 69.90.

Big run from Gu. Not perfect but that'll give her a foundation.

China stands up for Eileen Gu as she stands in the gate.

She's already won gold in the freeski big air. After nine athletes have competed in this first run Great Britain sit second and fourth.

I have a feeling Gu may have something to say about that...

Argh! That was looking so, so good for Kirsty Muir until that last landing.

She makes it look incredibly easy. She'll nail that landing next time.

So close. A lovely run from Kirsty Muir until the final jump. She's on the deck, gets up and jogs for her ski. No major disaster as there are two more runs to come but had she landed that it would have been a lovely opener.

Very, very nice! Katie Summerhayes is the first skier to put a score on the board. It's important, she's settled the nerves and got a run under the belt and now she can start building.

The only downside of being the first person to lay a score down is that the judges will now use this as a benchmark for the next runs.

A solid enough start from Katie Summerhayes. Completing that first run will calm any nerves nicely, particularly when the first two haven't made it down.

She scores 60.01. Now to build from that.

Summerhayes is awarded a score of 60.01, which is very nice. Our pundit Tim Warwood says French athlete Tess Ledeux delivers an "absolute whopper".

Where I come from that's not a good thing but in snowboard parlance it seems it's good. She gets 72.91 for the effort.

Lovely stuff so far, everything landed, no falls and the first athlete to put a score on the board.

I believe the word used in this field is... "stoked".

Katie Summerhayes is ready at the top of the slope. The third run of the day in this competition. The first two haven't done a thing, so can she put something nice down?

It's below -21 degrees Celsius at the moment, it's absolutely freezing. Cold weather can do strange things to metal and Mathilde Gremaud keeps looking up at the rail as though something got caught.

I get the feeling that she maybe doesn't trust her gear - that is not the position you want to be in.

Well that's not the start that Switzerland's Mathilde Gremaud would have wanted. Her ski's popped off after the first rail!

She looks really perplexed by that.
