Women's curling - China 1-1 Great Britain (after three ends)

    Steve Cram
    Curling commentator on BBC TV

Great Britain are playing very nicely so far, very controlled, no dramas here so far like we had in the match against Japan. That was a big scoring game early on but by contrast it's only 1-1 here. All good so far.

China level the match with one, and it's fairly cagey.

A lot of stones being hit straight out of the house. Both teams waiting to capitalise on a mistake.

    Men’s ski slopestyle

Austria's Matej Svancer, a first-time Olympian at the age of 17, shows no sign of nerves in his opening run of the final with a 73.05. The teenager has only competed in seven World Cup events but won two of them.

Switzerland's Kim Gubser, however, has not started the final after a thigh injury in qualifying.

    Men’s ski slopestyle

Ooooh! Almost a stumble from Swedish 21-year-old Oliwer Magnusson as he opens the final - 23.75 the score, and he'll already be looking forward to dusting himself down for his final two runs.

It's an even start so far. Eve Muirhead was forced into taking one in the first, which she managed with a nice draw.

China then blank the second end to retain the hammer in the third.

    Men’s ski slopestyle

Next up is the men’s ski slopestyle, with medals up for grabs.

The top 12 competitors from Tuesday's qualification have made it to the final on the Great Wall-inspired course, where skiers are judged on a series of tricks and jumps on a course that consists of rails and other obstacles.

Among the competitors is American Nicholas Goepper, who won silver in the freeski slopestyle event at the Pyeongchang Games in 2018 and bronze at Sochi in 2014 and has talked openly about finding it difficult to cope with the media pressure after that medal in Russia.

"Honestly, the skiing hasn't changed much, the personal stuff has changed a lot," said Goepper, who admitted he turned to alcohol during that time.

"I mean, I want to win a gold medal, that's for sure."

  9. Where will GB's medals come from?published at 01:22 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2022

With just five days of the Games remaining, Great Britain are now projected to win just one medal - the last time GB went home from a Winter Games empty-handed was 1992.

Team GB won five medals at the last two Winter Olympics - in Sochi and Pyeongchang - but look set to fall way below that in Beijing.

Before the Games, UK Sport believed between three and seven medals could be won, but analysts Nielsen Gracenote predict only one will now go Team GB's way - a silver in men's curling.

Bruce Mouat's rink are currently second in the round-robin standings, having won five of their six matches so far. Mouat and partner Jen Dodds had been medal favourites in the mixed doubles event as reigning world champions, but finished fourth.

    Women's curling - China v Great Britain

    Jackie Lockhart
Four-time Olympic curler on BBC TV

I've seen so many championships where you get to the latter stages and the play-off stages and the ice has changed so much - it's often because there are less people on the ice.

They do rub the stones as well just to make them move a bit more on the ice. All of these things can have an impact.

After the men's team qualified for the semi-finals last night, it's the women's turn to try to nudge themselves closer to the play-offs.

If they beat China here, then another win in their final match against the Russian Olympic Committee should be enough to go through.
