It’s been coming for a while, a crash in this mass start event.

Russian Olympic Committee’s Elizaveta Golubeva and South Korea’s Park Jiwoo tangled and ended up clattering into a heap into the (thankfully) very padded edge of the track. They both got up but that was the end of their chances to reach the final.

These two teams know each other so well.

Niklas Edin will have thought long and hard about what he wanted to do and what he needed to do because he has so much respect for this British team.

Lining up in the first of the women's semi-finals is Germany's Claudia Pechstein, who will be competing at her eighth Winter Olympics!

The 49-year-old made her debut 30 years ago at Albertville 1992.

She has five Olympic gold to her name but she's not expected to add to them here.

The favourite for the event is Canada's Ivanie Blondin, who was among those tipped for the title in 2018 before she crashed in the semi-finals.

Men's curling final: Sweden 3-2 Great Britain (after four ends)

Great Britain need to hang on to Sweden for as long as they can, keep this match going as long as they can and take it into the last two or three ends.

A game of inches in every sense.

  12. 'Britain need to play patience game'published at 08:02 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2022

Gold-medal match: Great Britain 2-3 Sweden (after four ends)

    Jackie Lockhart
Four-time Olympic curler on BBC TV

I think Britain have to continue what they're doing. It's that patience game.

All the guys are playing really well but Niklas Edin is on fire. He's pulling out the shots which are making it difficult for Bruce Mouat to get his two.

I wouldn't change too much. I'm not panicking. The second half of the game will be important and see how Britain came out firing after the break.

  13. Britain win pointpublished at 08:02 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2022

Gold-medal match: Great Britain 2-3 Sweden (after four ends)

It is Britain's point! It must have been milimetres. But the clever compass style tool doesn't lie.

That was big. Sweden still on top, but the scoreboard saved from some serious damage.

Bobby Lammie sweeping furiously and Bruce Mouat's stone needs every brushstroke.

"Is that enough?" asks Lammie as he comes up for air and the stone comes to rest.

No-one's sure. The British yellow stone or the Swedish red stone. Which is closer to the bullseye.

It's going to need the umpire's tape measure.

Gold-medal match: Great Britain 1-3 Sweden (after three ends)

Another steal here would see Sweden in a very, very good position. Bruce has to draw in much closer. He has to get one. He can not give up the steal.

This is not looking great for Great Britain's yellow stones.

One stone each left for the two skips and Sweden are lying one.

Niklas Edin is going to guard up to try and secure another steal...

Needs a huge final stone from Mouat...

Sweden skip Niklas Edin can run the red, go for the outside yellow, or draw round Grant's stone. But that's really tough.

Grant Hardie with a decent rock into the house. Britain also have one on the bullseye and are lying two.

The double take-out isn't on. Or is it?

Oskar Eriksson goes at it with pace. And precision. Great shot.

Sweden lying one now. Great Britain with the hammer and will be hoping to take two at least from this end.

Got to get their skates (of slippy soft-sole curling numbers) on.

Gold-medal match: Great Britain 1-3 Sweden (after three ends)

    Niklas EdinImage source, Getty

Curling isn't even Swedish skip Niklas Edin's number one sport!

“I play a lot more pool than curling, to be honest. That challenges me more than curling, because curling is so known to me, so to speak," he said.

Basically he's saying he has completed curling.

The 36-year-old has had an awful run of injuries, having 10 operations over the past decade on elbow, knee and back.

"Most of them are joints, so there’s definitely something going on there, something hereditary," he said.

Ominously, he believes he is a curler who needs the big occasion.

"I can be absolutely useless in practice or training. I kind of need the bigger games. I think that’s why we’ve won so much more than we probably should have," he said.

  20. GB's Musgrave sticking with leaderspublished at 07:45 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2022

    Men's 30km mass start

Great Britain's Andrew Musgrave is still very much in contention in the men's 30km cross-country ski.

The lead group has been whittled down to 14 athletes at the 17km point, with Russian Alexander Bolshunov still pushing the pace at the front.
