It's an absolute corker of a day here in Zhangjiakou, not a cloud in the sky. The temperature reads -20.4C, but to be completely honest it doesn't feel that cold (famous last words!).

A decent crowd here too, being warmed up by some sort of dance troup. That's one way to stay warm, I guess.

We've seen progression in the four year cycle. the fact that Katie Ormerod has kept pace with it is phenomenal.

It is an incredible achievement to have missed half a cycle and to still be here.

Having just missed out on reaching the 2014 Games, Ormerod went to PyeongChang with medal aspirations.

    Fate had other ideas, though.

Firstly, she broke her wrist in training a few days before the competition. Despite bravely planning on competing with a cast, the following day she broke her heel - splitting the bone clean in two - in a freak accident.

She watched the event on TV post surgery in hospital - the first of seven operations - before spending four months on crutches and requiring a year of rehab.

Her list of previous injuries also includes a snapped ACL, a broken shoulder, a break to each arm and a broken back.

Much has been made of the artificial snow being used at these Olympics, but I can confirm there was some natural snowfall here in the mountains of Zhangjiakou last week.

We’re about 110 miles from Beijing itself, and it’s insanely cold.

The lowest temperature we’ve experienced so far is -22C. I’ve already become used to frosty eyelashes and eyebrows.

    Women's slopestyle qualification

Yorkshire snowboarder Katie Ormerod begins her quest for an Olympic medal shortly.

The 24-year-old suffered an injury nightmare four years ago but comes to Beijing on the back of some promising form.

Missing out on qualification for Sochi in 2014, Ormerod broke her heel in Pyeongchang in 2018 - just days before what should have been her Olympic debut.

She made British snowboarding history when she won the slopestyle crystal globe for the 2019-20 World Cup season.

Switzerland have set up some really good ends, but just not managed to finish it off.

Mixed curling is a different game, it's different tactics.

All games are big now - but Sweden were very impressive.

A last shot for Sweden in the seventh end as they look to wrap this match up...

Lovely! The Swedish pair have had a fantastic morning - and Switzerland have had enough.

With one stone to go, the Swiss agree to shake hands - or fist-bump as is the new norm - to confirm a 6-1 win for Sweden. Well deserved.

  9. Who is representing GB?published at 02:26 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2022

Great Britain have competed at every Winter Olympics since they began in Chamonix in France in 1924.

A squad of 50 athletes and reserves travelled to Beijing, with four of the GB athletes winning medals at previous Olympics.

Izzy Atkin (2018), Eve Muirhead (2014) and Laura Deas (2018) claimed medals for GB, while Gus Kenworthy won silver in ski slopestyle in 2014 when representing the United States.

In 23 Winter Games, Britain have won 32 medals in total - although seven more were won in figure skating when it was part of the 1908 and 1920 Summer Olympics.

Wth the standard of play from the two Swedes, you can't see Switzerland coming back from this.

In the other match this morning, Norway have beaten Australia after Australia shook hands when trailing 10-4 after six ends.

We arrived in China over a week ago and so we’ve had plenty of time to have a look around (within the closed loop system, of course).

I first came to the Genting Snow Park last weekend and was blown away by the venue. You can see the end of the slopestyle course in this photo I took - those jumps are SO big it’s hard to comprehend.

I’d tip my woolly hat to the athletes who launch themselves over those, but it's absolutely freezing and I don’t want my ears to get cold.

Speaking during the ceremony, IOC president Thomas Bach addressed "all political authorities across the globe", asking them to "give peace a chance".

"In our fragile world, where division, conflict and mistrust are on the rise, we show the world: yes, it is possible to be fierce rivals, while at the same time living peacefully and respectfully together," he said.

Bach told the athletes: "You will show how the world would look like, if we all respect the same rules and each other.

"Over the next two weeks you will compete with each other for the highest prize. At the same time, you will live peacefully together under one roof in the Olympic Village.

"There, there will be no discrimination for any reason whatsoever. "

During Friday's opening ceremony, IOC president Thomas Bach said one of the missions of the Games was to "unite humankind in all our diversity".

    Here's an explainer.
