That was a fantastic last lap from Martina Sablikova. She really did attack and had to dig deep because she knows Irene Schouten of the Netherlands still has to come.

That's a disappointing time for the world champion Antoinette de Jong and she is unlikely to win a medal in this event.

We are not sure about the ice conditions. They haven't had many competitions here. This a new ice rink and it is very dry atmosphere which is affecting the skaters.

The skaters compete in pairs around a 400m track featuring two competition lanes. Rather than competing directly against each other in a knockout format, skaters are ranked purely by the time they set.

Miho Takagi is the current leader, with Antoinette de Jong surprisingly down in third after a disappointing run.

Compatriot Carlijn Achtereekte is currently in second with four pairs still to compete.

  8. Johaug's dominant return...published at 09:20 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2022

    Women's 15km skiathlon

If you are just joining us, the first gold medal of the Winter Games has been won by Norway's Therese Johaug, who dominated the women's 15km skiathlon.

Johaug missed the 2018 Games while serving a doping ban.

The 33-year-old tested positive for the steroid clostebol in 2016 and blamed the result on a lip cream she had used.

Norway's team doctor resigned over the issues, stating he had made a "personal mistake as a doctor".

The Norwegian ski committee banned Johaug for 13 months but after an appeal by the International Ski Federation, the Court of Arbitration for Sport extended the penalty to 18 months, meaning she missed the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang.

  9. Team GB beat Czech Republic to secure curling winpublished at 09:14 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2022

Earlier this morning Team GB mixed doubles curling pair Jen Dodds and Bruce Mouat eased to a comfortable 8-2 win against the Czech Republic.

Victory puts them third in the standings, with four wins from five games as they aim for a top-four finish and semi-final berth.

Dodds and Mouat, who won the 2021 world title when playing for Scotland, face leaders 12:05 GMT.

If previous Games are to go by, we are all going to be curling addicts by the end of Beijing 2022...

The World Cup leader Natalia Nepryaeva of the Russian Olympic Committee skied brilliantly in the latter part of the race to take silver.

Austria's Teresa Stadlober went the wrong way in Pyeongchang but made amends with a bronze medal.

This is the most significant win of Johaug's career. After the question marks over her character four years ago, this is exactly how she would have wanted this race to turn out.

She has waited her whole career to become an individual Olympic champion. This race has been a procession of excellence.

After missing out on the podium in her last two appearances Therese Johaug finally gets her hand on an individual Olympic gold.

It was a real statement performance from the three-time world champion - 44 seconds clear of the pack.

Natalia Nepryaeva of the Russian Olympic Committee takes silver and Austria's Teresa Stadlober the bronze.

It is a redemption moment for Stadlober, who missed out on a silver medal four years ago when she took a wrong turn and ended up finishing eighth.
