Boos are an unexpected noise at the breaking! But when France's Carlota loses her battle to Ukraine's Kate, that's exactly what we get.

The hardest working man in Paris, Snoop D.O. Double G, is working overtime at the La Concorde.

In the next round of battles, Japan's Ayumi collects 10 votes to Stefani of the Ukraine's eight. Fellow Ukrainian b-girl Kate throws down some decent moves to overcome French breaker Carlota two-nil.

Sunny of the USA and 671 of China is apparently the battle to watch. The music for these two throw downs is catchy. A windmill by 671 is enough to take both of the rounds.

Alison Curbishley on GB's Katarina Johnson-Thompson's positioning on the scoreboard:

I think Katarina Johnson-Thompson and her coach will be looking at the first event of day two, the long jump. She had the chance to really maximise in one of her stronger events but it was a really cagey start for her where she only had three attempts and saved her best for last.

The only thing that could dampen the party mood here is rain...I'm feeling a few little drops.

Some quite dark clouds have gathered above but hopefully they will pass. Only the competition area is covered.

Lydia Ko is looking for a complete set of Olympic medals. She was a silver medallist in Rio, a bronze medallist in Tokyo and if the New Zealander and former world number one wins this week will have done enough to qualify for the LPGA hall of fame.

We're having a LOT of chat about the music in this inaugural breaking event.

Some of us are misty-eyed remembering Run DMC's It's Like That, which is probably more what we were expecting!

So if you were to give breaking a go... what track would you choose?

    The wackier the better, please!

It just feels like one big party at the breaking - a bit like being in a club but in the daytime. You definitely wouldn't want to be here with a headache!

It's a packed house and the MCs are peppering proceedings with helpful pointers for those who might be watching for the first time. They've just told us that b-girls can't repeat moves they have already done for the rest of the competition.

Fans are lapping it up, the biggest cheers coming for the spectacular windmills and spins on their heads.

    Breaking - b-girls round-robin

According to the commentary team put in Paris, China's Ying Zi has some "unique freezes". The battle is in flow against Elmamouny of Morocco but by the end of two rounds, the Chinese b-girl takes this one two-nil thanks to 18 votes overall. And we got a head slide during that battle. Tremendous.

It's getting really interesting now with eight players within three shots of the lead and amongst them is the likes of Nelly Korda and Lydia Ko.

Ko is in a four-way tie for the lead with Rose Zhang.

If you've ever been on a night out that's involved your favourite tipple, you will have tried some form of breaking. Thankfully, these guys are the professionals.

Next up in Group C is Japan's Ami taking on Anti of Italy. The two b-girls embrace after that energetic round but the points go to Ami after those intricate moves. Two rounds for the Japanese breaker.

The music, by the way, is fantastic.

Snopp Dogg is loving the breaking.

The MCs are hyping up the crowd as Nicka of Lithuania and home breaker Syssy of France complete their battle in Group B. Nicka apparently trains six hours every day! The judges see that as a fair fight and it's level at 1-1.

Next up in this Group B round-robin is Logistx versus Raygun.

So, Logistx just wiped her brow after Australian Raygun's moves. I think that means she's hyping herself up?

As music stops, the USA b-girl has picked up 18 votes from the judges and is two-nil up.

How does breaking work?published at 15:24 British Summer Time 9 August

    Breaking - b-girls round robin

    Sonia Oxley
    BBC Sport in Paris

If you haven't seen breaking before, this is how it's going to work:

The dancers - known as b-girls or b-boys - compete in one-on-one 'battles' navigated by a master of ceremonies (MC) to music randomly played by a DJ.

Their improvised routines - called 'throw downs' are overseen by nine judges. They are not scored in points but instead the judges move a digital slider towards the breaker they think is winning the battle. Battles are two 60-second throw downs (or three in knockout).

We're in the round-robin phase, where 16 b-girls are in four groups. The top two from each group will go through to the knockout phase.

This is a hot ticket for the Chinese.

Racing around the venue to find the entrance alongside me was Chinese skier Eileen Gu.

The two-time Olympic champion is one of the world’s most recognisable and influential young athletes - so it was getting a spot in the stands was no problem for the 21-year-old and her mum.

But Gu, who is good friends with British tennis star Emma Raducanu, as desperate not to miss a second of the action.
