Paris 2024 is into the home stretch now. The end of the summer Games is in sight.

Great Britain head to bed tonight with 14 gold medals in the bank courtesy of 19-year-old Toby Roberts' dramatic victory in the boulder and lead event. The teenager improved his sport climbing on a DIY wall built in his parents’ garden, so there's hope for us all.

The champagne will also be flowing for Katarina Johnson-Thompson, GB women's relay team and Neah Evans and Elinor Baker's silvers, plus Jack Carlin and GB men's relay team's bronze medals.

There are 39 gold medals on offer on Saturday - the busiest day of Olympics action.

Look out for Laura Muir in the women's 1500m, Noah Williams and Kyle Kothari in the men's 10m platform diving and USA's superstar line-up in the men's basketball final.

    Bonne nuit!

    Athletics - heptathlon

Katarina Johnson-Thompson on BBC One: “I wanted to compete and I wanted to be able to respond. I knew coming into the champs I was in good shape - physically, mentally, emotionally.

“Rome scared me a bit with the injury and I’ve been able to respond when I nearly needed it.

"Today I proved to myself that I can have that competitive energy. Those third time jumps, third time throws and clearances. I’m just so happy with how everything went, I've got no complaints.

On the camaraderie between the heptathletes: “People see it out at the end of the race but it’s always there within the combined events restroom, it's there in the warm up track.

"It comes with the terms of having all different strengths and weaknesses and being able to cling onto them, I was able to cling onto Anna Hall's big strength in the 800 so everyone respects each other. This is what the event is about."

'I'm so proud of myself'published at 21:54 British Summer Time 9 August

    Track cycling - men's sprint

Bronze medallist Jack Carlin on BBC One: “Having friends and family here, I think that’s what set me off. I think it's having that support there. They have been my absolute rock these last three months and it has got me to where I am.

On the incident in the bronze: “I’ll be honest with you, yesterday my head fell off a little bit after the first ride and almost getting pushed out, my head went a little bit and I rode on pure emotion which is unlike me. I normally try and keep myself composed.

“Today I went in with the attitude of, I’m just gonna race. I'm in the top four which is more than I thought I was gonna get in the sprint this time and I deserve to be there and I thought I need to go race this the best I can.

“I raced two of the best I have ever raced against Harrie - he’s too strong fundamentally in the sprint. The keiren is a different story there’s more people there, things can happen and Jeffery obviously went to three and then the incident happened as I was moving up the track, we’re using two different tyres on the front and rear. The front is a bit more slippy and as I think I turned, I turned too aggressively for it, slipped a little bit, leaned into him a bit and the incident happened.

“At that point I thought I've left it in the hands of the comms. The race hadn't really started yet and then from that point he gets to decide what position he wants. His preferred position was two which is how he got me in the first one and I had to race from the front and made sure I just rode a really clean race and it was the fastest sprint I've done I think in the whole competition.

"I gave it absolutely everything. I think the whole competition I gave it absolutely everything, I'm so proud of myself."
