And that is that for four-time French Open champion Iga Swiatek's hunt for an Olympic gold medal.

The Polish star was last beaten at Roland Garros in 2021.

China's Qinwen Zheng produced the win of her career to progress to the final in a 6-2 7-5 victory.

Swiatek, of course, will now play for the bronze medal.

Former 1500m world champion Jake Wightman has been forced to withdraw from the Olympic 800m because of a hamstring injury.

Wightman was a big medal hope for Great Britain. He has been replaced by Elliot Giles in the men's 800m.

The 30-year-old took 1500m gold at 2022 World Championships in Eugene, beating Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen in a thrilling race.

However, he has struggled with injury since and withdrew from the 2023 World Championships, where fellow Briton Josh Kerr took the 1500m title.

Another injury meant Wightman missed the British Championships earlier this year but he still got the nod for the 800m - the distance over which he won European silver in 2022.

Giles missed out as a result but now comes in to compete at his third Olympics, joining Ben Pattison and Max Burgin as the British entrants in the men's 800m.

    *Errani/Paolini 6-3 3-0 Boulter/Watson

    BBC Sport at Roland Garros

Boulter and Watson have gelled together very nicely this week, racking up a pair of impressive wins to reach the quarter-finals.

Their styles have complemented each other - Boulter serving and hitting big from the baseline working in tandem with Watson’s sharp net play.

Today they haven’t been as effective and that’s down to the quality of the Italian pair.

The Brits are a double break down at the start of the second set.

Heartbreak for McIntoshpublished at 12:49 British Summer Time 1 August

    Lewis Coombes
    BBC Sport in Paris

It’s heartbreak for British shooter Seonaid McIntosh in the Women’s 50m 3P Rifle.

After starting like a train, the world number one led the way after the first position, kneeling.

But by the time she’d completed her 20 shots in prone, McIntosh had dropped to third.

And seemingly struggling to get to grips with the standing position, McIntosh finished 12th, with a score of 586-38x.

The Edinburgh-shooter had won all bar one of the World Cup events this year, so was a favourite to medal.

Only the top eight progress through to tomorrow’s final. For McIntosh, this will be a hard pill to swallow.

    Jonathan Jurejko

Watson confidently held serve - but then so did Paolini.

Even more work to do for the Britons against their top-quality Italian opponents.

Errani and Paolini reached the French Open final on the same Roland Garros clay about six weeks ago.

At the end of the set, some fans start singing ‘happy birthday’.

Think it’s celebrating another fan’s special day as opposed to Katie Boulter - who has turned 28 today.

Get involvedpublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 1 August

I’m not naive enough to think I could do well in any event but when I watch the dressage I do look at it and think I could compete. Surely if I get the GB teams horse I could do well?

    Zac, Crawley

In answer to your question the obvious answer is race walking since the event just boils down to beating able to cheat without getting caught.

When are Andy Murray and Dan Evans playing?published at 12:42 British Summer Time 1 August

    Jonathan Jurejko
    BBC Sport at Roland Garros

That's the question everyone has been asking as they try to plan their days around the great man.

But it is also a difficult to give an exact answer to.

In short, Andy Murray and Dan Evans are playing fourth on Court Suzanne Lenglen.

Plays starts at 11:00 BST when Czech pair Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova play Chinese Taipei's Hsieh Su-Wei and Tsao Chia-Yi in the women's doubles.

After that are two men's singles quarter-finals - Germany's Alexander Zverev against Italy's Lorenzo Musetti before Norway's Casper Ruud against Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime.

I'd guesstimate (a mug's game in the unpredictable nature of tennis) the Brits will be playing about 17:30 BST.

Don't hold me to that, though. We'll give you regular updates how things are panning out as the day goes on.

    Well!

Great Britain's men are up against it, with the hosts leading at half-time.

GB had been on top and pushing hard but France, through a late break, had Timothee Clement in the right place to bundle in with just 46 seconds remaining.

The noise inside the stadium when France scored was deafening. GB could be made to rue their missed chances - they've gone 0/10 from penalty corners so far...
