That is the title that Sarah Sjoestroem didn't have. The 50m Olympic freestyle is the one that she did not have in the glittering career she has had, and now she's got it.

I told you earlier in the week how excited my Swedish neighbours got when Sarah Sjoestroem won the 100m title.

They're far more reserved today. I think they were expecting that one.

Sweden's Sarah Sjoestroem already has a gold in the 100m freestyle safely packed away in her suitcase but she may have a little room left for another.

Sjoestroem won silver in the 50m freestyle at Tokyo 2020 but boasts the world record for this event - 23.61 seconds - and has a target on her back in this final.

    So, who could challenge?

China's Zhang Yufei has collected four medals so far in Paris - winning one silver and three bronze, while America's Gretchen Walsh has a gold and two silvers.

Australian pair Shayna Jack and Meg Harris have also picked up medals in Paris.

Jack played a part in the 4x200m freestyle relay and they were both involved in Australia's success in the 4x100m freestyle relay.

The French support, as ever, will be wild tonight.

This group of British fans have come to make themselves heard, however.

"We might not be quicker on Marchand's leg but we can beat them in the rest," one tells me.

Daniel Wiffen already has one Olympic gold medal to his name, and is favourite to add another this evening in the 1500m freestyle.

I bumped into his family on my way into the La Defense Arena, and it's fair to say they are pretty relaxed about Wiffen delivering a historic second gold medal.

I should also point out that's his twin brother, Nathan, and Daniel didn't just go for a leisurely stroll pre-race - not that it's stopped fans stopping Nathan and asking for photos.

Wiffen can become the first athlete from Northern Ireland to win two Olympic gold medals, and the first man to represent Team Ireland to win multiple golds in a single Games since 1996.

    Schedule

A whiteboard outside La Defense Arena has had a handwritten evening schedule on each night here.

Tonight, on the final night at the pool in these Olympics, it is headlined 'The Last Dance for King Leon I'.

France's new national hero, Leon Marchand, will line up in the 4x100m medley relay, attempting to win a fifth gold of these Games.

Can he do it? Well France qualified fastest but USA, China and even Team GB should have something to say.

By my calculations, she's the United States' first winner of the Olympic women's road race in 40 years.
