    Sailing - women's kite final

Huge move from Ellie Aldridge on race two of the sailing as she nips in front of Lauriane Nolot to take the lead.

I said five races to go, but that's if all the other sailors win.

Aldridge only needs one race victory to take gold - and she's in pole position at the moment.

The stadium announcer has been explaining why it’s hot inside the velodrome (and it really is).

He reckons they have turned the temperature up today because of low pressure outside (the weather outside has a big impact on conditions inside) - and he says it will make the track faster and make it ripe for some world records…

GB have missed out on 10+ very likely golds due to bad fortune rather than underperformance. Including Katy Archibald freak injury (2), Adam Peaty covid (2), Amber Rutter poor officiating, Emma Wilson windsurfing format works against the best windsurfer, Lewis Richardson boxing marginal officiating, Josh Kerr not protecting inside lane when in front, Beth Potter fatigue from running individual triathlon cost GB mixed gold. Overall medal performance is outstanding. Just haven’t had the rub on the above.

    Sonia Oxley

Today's track cycling session features the men's omnium - which is basically like a decathlon/heptathlon in this sport.

It's a test of all-round endurance, featuring four different events ridden in the space of a few hours in this order: scratch race, tempo race, elimination race, points race.

Riders try to earn points in each race and the overall omnium winner is the rider with most points after the four events.

First up is scratch - which is a straight race over 10km (40 laps). The winner scores 40 points, the second-placed rider 38 points, and so on.

“Between us we've got nine medals and I just think our accolades and how we try to be as athletes and people really sets a tone for the team.

    Taekwondo - men's 68kg semi-finals: Bradly Sinden (GB) v Zaid Kareem (Jor)

We will soon be seeing Britain's Bradly Sinden in action in the men's 68kg semi-finals in taekwondo when he takes on Zaid Kareem. The winner will be guaranteed at least a silver medal.

Each contest is the best of three rounds, win two of them and you are the overall winner.

But what is the scoring system?

    • One point for a valid punch to the trunk (chest and ribs) protector
    • Two points for a valid kick to the trunk protector
    • Four points for a valid turning kick to the trunk protector
    • Three points for a valid kick to the head
    • Five points for a valid turning kick to the head
    • One point awarded for every penalty (known as gam-jeom) given against the opponent

Sinden lost in the Olympics final in Tokyo three years ago and the man who beat him, Ulugbek Rashitov of Uzbekistan, is on course to retain his title and waiting for the winner of Sinden v Kareem in the final.

More from Jack Laugher speaking to BBC One: “Every time I dive I'm trying to stick to my own routine, today I let emotion get better of me.

It wasn't pressure, it wasn’t nerves, I had so much adrenaline coursing through me. I think you could see that off my first two - they were a little bit nervy and not as good as they usually are.

“I got the best start I've ever got on that third dive, I just went coursing over.

“I’m glad there's no underwater microphones cause I said some horrible things under there but it was really difficult but I've gotta pass the baton on at some point I'm getting towards 30, he’s just 20-years-old he’s a fantastic athlete.

“Honestly I'm honoured to be amongst such amazing people and athletes. I think I've done myself really proud, obviously the dream was to get two medals.”

Jack Laugher speaking to BBC One: “Sad. I think I just let today get the better of me. All week after the synchro I was kind of just taking everything as it came and I didn't really mind how the result was going to be which gave me a bit of freedom.

“Today I had excellent training, just got a little bit too far ahead of myself. I think the emotion, crowd noise was absolutely phenomenal today and following Osmar [Olvera], such a wonderful diver with massive support for himself, I didn’t really expect that to affect me the way it did but I'm really proud of this Olympics, I’m proud of myself.

“Four Olympic medals - it’s hard to be sad but right now in this moment I am obviously devastated.”

The Olympic Games is not solely about celebrating the world's best sporting talent.

It is also about celebrating the cultures and traditions of competing nations - and bringing curious people from all the globe together.

One of the best places to do that at Paris 2024 is the Parc des Nations.

Full of colour, noise and fun, a carnival atmosphere is created by a host of countries have their 'houses' here. Each is essentially a fan park with large screens showing the sport.

But the spaces are also for fans of any nationality to stroll around, learn more about their host, try some delicacies and - particularly in the Latin American 'casas' - have a little dance to traditional music.

France is the biggest space, naturally, with other nations based here including Brazil, Ukraine, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Chinese Taipei, Slovenia, India, South Africa, Mexico, Colombia and Canada.
