No matter how many times you tell yourself it’s coming, it doesn’t stop you jumping out of your skin when this man fires the starting pistol.

He’s just below where we sit and it is very, very loud. The key is to keep your eye on him and then you don’t jump, an experienced man next to me tells me, clearly trying to avoid any more jolts to his desk.

Next up is Katy Marchant, who has just been introduced to the crowd to big cheers, although France's Mathilde Gros gets the biggest roar of course.

    It was flawless, wasn't it.

    What brilliant execution.

In 2018, the British Sailing Federation started a scheme entitled Kite to Gold and I bet they're glad they did.

They have produced an Olympic champion at the first time of asking!

More from Jade Jones on the future: “I'm not sure with anything I do, I just give everything to that. Everything for Paris. I'll obviously take some time out, I've been living in Croatia, go back with my family and regroup and learn from this and see.

“As an athlete you just learn, now it’s done there’s nothing I can do it'll probably kill me for the rest of my life but there's nothing I can do but move on, move forward, learn from it and trust everything happens for a reason. It'll make me better, stronger - it’s a life lesson.”

On whether the doping situation affected her build-up: “No, the situation was handled good. I knew I made a mistake, they came on the hydration day.

I wasn't in the right mind and didn't realise what I was doing. I’m just so happy they looked into it properly and it was all sorted.”

I just feel so bad for him [Sinden]. He is the best in that weight category and has been so consistent for so long.

He will be devastated he's not in that Olympic final but he does have a chance to go for the bronze medal.

Ooof! That was a messy crash. Apart from the keirin being the one with the motorbike, it’s also a bit unpredictable and needs some luck.

Three riders went flying in that first heat after they crossed the line and they are currently picking up pieces of broken bike off the track. They’re also vacuuming and taping up the track as it’s sustained some damage.

Sinden loses semi-final, will fight for bronzepublished at 16:33 British Summer Time 8 August

    Taekwondo - men's 68kg semi-finals: Bradly Sinden (GB) v Zaid Kareem (Jor)

Both fighters concede an early penalty to make it 1-1 in this deciding round in the incredible Grand Palais setting - one of the best-looking venues we have seen at these Games.

Zaid Kareem of Jordan lands a kick to the chest, a penalty goes against Britain's Bradly Sinden to leave Kareem 4-1 ahead and then a head kick from Kareem ends it as a contest.

The man from Jordan leads 7-1 ahead with only 10 seconds left and Sinden has to attack but gets caught again with a kick to the trunk protector.

Kareem wins the third round 9-1 and will now fight reigning Olympic champion Ulugbek Rashitov of Uzbekistan for the gold medal. Sinden can still get a medal, but it will be bronze at best.

Jade Jones on BBC One after her defeat earlier today: "Obviously I'm devastated - it's been an incredible journey, qualifying for my fourth Olympic. I knew in my heart and believed in my heart I could do it today but sport is sport. It all comes down on the day and I didn't have the balls, I didn't have what it takes today. I'm absolutely devastated but proud of myself for trying and giving everything to try to do it.”

On what went wrong: “The balls and courage - it's harder and harder when you win and be Olympic champion the pressure mounts and mounts, you almost want it too much and I just was frozen, I didn't fire I didn't let my legs go.”

We'll soon be under way with the first heat of the women's keirin quarter-finals. There are three heats and GB's Emma Finucane is in the second and Katy Marchant is in the third.

If you don't watch cycling much then the keirin is the one with the motorbike!

Riders follow a pacing motorbike or electric bike called a derny, which gradually increases in speed from 30km/h to 50km/h.

Before the start of the race, riders draw lots to decide on their position behind the derny.

After three laps, the derny drops off the track and a three-lap sprint begins.

Kareem misses with a head shot late on in the second round, losing it 4-1.

That's one round apiece. Two minutes and into a deciding round we go.
