Jack Laugher has been in this sport for a long time. He has followed in the steps of Tom Daley and is achieving just as many medals.

He is so experienced and can change his dives to suit who he is competing with. Jack is amazing and a great partner.

He is going to aim for that bronze medal, but will be aiming for that gold medal and make the Chinese nervous.

It could be his last event.

In the women's event, New Zealand clinched gold ahead of Germany, with Hungary finishing in third to take bronze.

Earlier, China's Liu Hao and Ji Bowen of China came out on top in the men's canoe double 500m sprint, beating Italy and Spain's pairings.

Despite growing up in an era where 5 golds was the norm, this Games will be seen as a failure by Team GB compared to the previous 3 Games. Too many favourites have failed to deliver. With lottery funding there can be fewer excuses.

It's early in the second quarter at Yves-du-Manoir Stadium as India take on Spain in the men's hockey bronze medal match.

Spain have just taken the lead with a penalty stroke from Marc Miralles.

There was a bit of concern for India in the first quarter when Gurjant Singh was struck on the head by the ball when captain Harmanpreet Singh fired across goal.

Fortunately, Gurjant was able to get up and walk off the pitch to undergo the necessary concussion checks.

It’s been a difficult morning for defending gold medallist Joe Choong and Olympic debutant Charlie Brown at the round robin fencing, the first event in the modern pentathlon.

Choong managed just 14 wins in his 35 bouts, 11 fewer than he managed on route to gold three years ago. He appeared to be affected by an injury and needed a medical timeout at one point.

Brown also secured 14 wins, the pair are tied 27th.

The 'why do athletes bite their medals' question might be one that China's Zhou Yaqin is asking.

A video of the gymnast, who secured silver in the women's beam, has gone viral for looking a tad confused when Italy's Alice D'Amato and Manila Esposito took a bite of their medals.

Zhou followed suit, but only put the medal to her lips rather than sinking her teeth into her new silverware.

Over the past 13 days of Olympic action we've seen medals aplenty.

And with medals come the pictures of athletes taking a bite of their new prized possession.

So, why do they do it?

According to the Olympic website, when gold was used as a form of currency, traders tended to bite their gold coins to check it's authenticity - pure gold is a soft metal which dents under stress.

But the International Olympic Committee (IOC) stopped awarding pure gold medals in 1912. Even chunks of the Eiffel Tower can be found in the medals for Paris 2024.

So, why are athletes still having a nibble? Well, because the photographers ask them to!

Team GB's John Gimson and Anna Burnet say they are "broken" after they missed out on a medal in the mixed multihull sailing event.

The couple, who are due to get married soon, were disqualified in the medal race for crossing the start line too early.

"It's brutal. This is the most brutal way to lose because it is so far out of our control," Gimson said.

"I'm so proud of this week and how we sailed. We made one mistake and it's cost us an Olympic medal so you can imagine we're pretty broken."

Burnet added: "In that moment it's devastating, it's a bad dream but we can be proud of what we have done.

"There's no one I'd rather be here with. We're so lucky we get to do this together. The highs and low, we're biding it together."
