GB miss out on medal in mixed multi-hullpublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 8 August

    Mixed multi-hull medal race

It all went wrong on the start line for Team GB's John Gimson and Anna Burnet in the mixed multi-hull medal race.

They were judged to have been over the line ahead of time and, as a result, had to withdraw from the double-points race.

That means they take a maximum 22 points and slip from third to fourth, behind New Zealand. The Kiwis came eighth in the medal race but that was enough for them to get on the podium.

France won the race but it is Italy who take the gold medal with Argentina claiming the silver.

Job done for Katarina Johnson-Thompson in the high jump.

She can't quite clear 1.95m but 1.92 is her best jump for five years.

Crucially, though, Olympic champion Nafi Thiam is also unable to go over at 1.95m - and that is more of a surprise.

All of that means that Johnson-Thompson leads the heptathlon on 2197 points after two disciplines. Thiam of Belgium is second on 2173 and USA's Anna Hall is third on 2164.

I am gutted. She deserves it and is the greatest. I feel like crying.

A historic third taekwondo gold was not to be for Great Britain's Jade Jones - the 2012 and 2016 Olympic champion

The Welsh fighter was beaten in her opening bout of the women's -57kg competition in Paris by Miljana Reljikj of North Macedonia.

Jones hit back after losing the first round to force a third round decider, but after finishing 1-1 the referee handed the decision to her opponent.

After two failures, the world champion clears 1.92m at the third and final attempt.

On she goes and, with USA's Anna Hall unable to clear at that height, it is just the Brit and defending Olympic champion Nafi Thiam left in the high jump.

Crushing disappointment for Jade Jones again at the Olympics. Very hard to see her coming back from this to try again. Was such a tight contest. Quite unlucky in fact.

There are so many variables. I just hope she can still go far in the competition.

Disastrous start for John Gimson and Anna Burnet at Marseille Marina in the mixed multi-hull medal race.

They're judged to have been over the line when the starting horn sounded so, while their competitors continue, they have had to pull out of the double-points race.

Their best hope of a medal is for this race to be abandoned because of the wind conditions. Were that to happen, they would be able to re-enter.

So far, so good for Great Britain's Katarina Johnson-Thompson in the heptathlon.

She is still going well in the high jump and has just cleared a season's best 1.89m at the second attempt .

Fellow Brit Jade O'Dowda registered 1.80m after three failed attempts at 1.83m.

Nafi Thiam went over first time at 1.89. No surprise given she holds the world heptathlon best at this event, a mere 2.02m.

Like KJT, USA's Anna Hall cleared it at the second attempt.
