That's brilliant! The coaches are embracing on the sideline, they know what this means.

That is Daley and Williams' second hardest dive. That is big, they are really delivering. They are now well ahead of Canada and have opened up a good bit of breathing room.

Absolute scenes. What a dive that was from Tom Daley and Noah Williams.

Leon Taylor has just nearly leapt out of his seat next to me. All of the international broadcasters are looking at him with confused looks.

Oh yes, get in! If they're going to stay in contention, that's exactly what we needed to see. A monstrous dive, a monstrous score, that's as good as I've seen them do it. Way over 90 points, that's exactly what the boys wanted.

'Beautiful' from Daley and Williamspublished at 10:37 British Summer Time 29 July

    Hello!

That is glorious from the British duo, absolutely nailing the triple and a half pike somersault with very little splash upon entry, and scoring a whopping 93.96.

    Two dives to go...

I don't really know what to say, China are above world class, a class of their own. Beautiful synchronisation, they get into the water so cleanly, such little splash, they are in perfect time the whole way through.

The judges are sat directly opposite me. They each have a little touch screen in front of them and crane their necks to watch the dives before submitting their scores.

    They look a serious bunch.

Tom Daley and Noah Williams are stepping it up a gear. They are now out on their own in second ahead of the Canadian pair, who slip to third.

China's Junjie Lian and Hao Jang continue to dominate. They extend their lead at the top to 11 points after an impressive 85.44 in their third dive.

Three rounds down, three to go.

The entry was absolutely brilliant, virtually no splash there at all.

The synchronisation seemed to be there are well.

Daley and Williams are going to right up there with that dive.

We'll take that with sprinklings, thank you very much. They looked electric in their training session this morning. The boys have delivered. The pressure now moves towards China, that's how this competition is set up, our boys put the pressure on those to come next.

We're into the fun stuff now as we begin the optional, and therefore more difficult, dives.

And Tom Daley and Williams smash their first one! They go for the triple somersault and score 83.52.

Halfway through their competition and the British duo are building nicely.

The biggest rivals for Daley and Williams are the Mexicans and Ukrainians, I don't rate the Canadians and Australians as highly going into the optional. Daley and Williams are looking in a pretty good position.

We know that Tom Daley is defending his title from Tokyo but we have to keep things in perspective.

For that to happen again would need a miracle here today.

Silver is realistically what they would see as a huge achievement.

That is outstanding, outstanding. I was impressed by China's first dive. I wouldn't be surprised if we see 10s. That synchronisation was bob on. That will be even closer to 60 points. They are multiple world champions and you can see why.

I think there was a little wobble at the start but Noah [Williams] got it back together.

It's a pretty good score, they got away with one there.

They are still level with Canada, both of them have got the exact same points for their two dives so far.

The crowd go 'oooooh' and I like that. A great dive, a great execution. It's a risky dive, you can see Noah was quite deep in his pike because he didn't want to over rotate. That's more than good enough, they are keeping themselves in contention.

Daley and Williams stay in contentionpublished at 10:18 British Summer Time 29 July

Another solid dive from Daley and Williams. They are a little bit out of sync in the pike position but recover well for a smooth entry into the water.

They score 51.60 and remain level with Canada. It's already setting up to be a very tense contest.

  19. Diving rules and format explainedpublished at 10:17 British Summer Time 29 July

All of the diving competitions are scored by a panel of judges who base their score on various criteria, including the aesthetics of the dive and how well the diver or divers enter the water.

The divers must submit a difficulty rating for each dive before the competition and their judges' score is multiplied by the difficulty to get a final total. Synchronised events are also judged on how in sync the pairing is.

Each dive performed by an athlete must be from a different group - forward, backward, reverse, inward, twisting and, for 10m only, armstand.

Men dive six times and women five, with the highest cumulative score determining the winner.

The four synchronised events progress straight to the final stage with eight pairs competing in each.
