Noah Williams described this Chinese pair as being like robots when I spoke to him earlier this year and he meant it as a massive compliment.

He said they're the Erling Haaland of diving. Lian Junjie and Yang Hao are unbeaten since returning to competition after the Covid-19 pandemic.

It has been some start to this competition.

It's not 10s for the Chinese, but it's not far away. I've seen them score close to 60, that will be close.

    They will take some beating.

What a start from Tom Daley and Noah Williams. That's how to smash it at the start of the Olympic Games.

It's a classy opening dive from Tom and Noah. Jane is doing her usual celebrations when her divers hit the water. Just what we wanted from our boys. That's nines on execution and synchro, easily at the top of the board with the Chinese to follow.

    Lovely!

Tom Daley and Noah Williams start nicely, with Williams recovering from a slight wobble as he backed on to the board - but it didn't impact the dive, thankfully!

They score 53.40. We'll let you know where that puts them in the standings once the final two pairs have performed.

Matty Lee, Tom Daley's partner at the 2020 Olympics in the Men's synchronised 10m platform, speaking on BBC One: "Right now, they have probably just finished prep. All of the work is done. In diving, you just let all of the competition happen. [Tom Daley's] come back to see his sons, especially Robbie, watch him compete. I think there will be some excitement for him.

"Noah [Williams is] very experienced, it's his second Olympics so he will know what the vibe is. Tom is a household name in Great Britain and it comes with a lot of nerves. I had three years with him and I absolutely loved it.

"Tom Daley's legacy affected me. When I was a kid, I was a fan, he inspired me. Tom Daley's legacy is already visible."

The cheers for Tom Daley and Noah Williams rivalled that of the French pair there.

Daley couldn't have looked more relaxed. He's said this time around just being here is enough - that competing in front of his sons and family is his gold medal.

Well he's done that bit. Now can he leave with some silverware?

All of the divers have emerged, and Tom Daley and Noah Williams will be sixth to dive (there are eight pairs in total).

The Australia pair of Bedggood and Rousseau are up first.

It's an emotional occasion, a feeling that we've watched Daley grow up throughout his cycle of five Olympics. He has his two young sons in the crowd, with his eldest Robbie being his inspiration for choosing to compete in Paris. The six-year-old is wearing a shirt with "That's my papa" on the back - just adorable.

I've all of a sudden become very nervous, but they know what they are doing. Everyone is watching them, scary times.

This morning, they would've gone up and gone to breakfast together. Doing everything together, I think that makes you a good team.

Tom [Daley] used to be the youngest on the team, now he's the oldest. He just went to Beijing for fun and now he's in the medals.

Some people are just really good under pressure, I think that's definitely Tom. I think he thrives off that pressure.

It's really difficult when you're new, they're up against pairs that have been diving for 10 or more years. Noah [Williams] is so cool and such a calm guy, they will be a good team.

Tom Daley and Noah Williams will just do everything they can to get gold and retain the medal they won last time when Daley was with Matty Lee.

It is a tough one, the Chinese are really, really strong but the thing is they have dived very well. I have watched them dive in training, the both of them. They are really good, they are on top of their game.

It is the Olympics, anything could happen really.

Double world champion Daniel Wiffen, from Northern Ireland, will get his first Olympic action in Paris in the 800m heats at 10:30 BST.

Before that, Team GB's Freya Colbert and Katie Shanahan will race in the first heat of the women's 400m individual medley at 10:00 BST.

British duo Kathleen Dawson and Medi Harris then hit the pool in the women's 100m backstroke, along with Ireland's Danielle Hill. All three are in a hotly-contested heat three.

    Team Daley

Hello from the Paris Aquatics Centre where Tom Daley and Noah Williams are going to begin their quest for gold.

'Team Daley' are already here. He's going to have a lot of support.

He's got his husband, two kids, endless family members and the picture above is just five of a group of 15 friends who have got themselves tickets.

From left to right we have Daniel, childhood friend Sophie, Nicky, Tag and Todd.

    Leon Taylor
Olympic diving silver medallist on BBC TV

It's so much easier sat in a commentary box than being on your tiptoes on the edge of the 10 metre board.

The reason why Peter [Waterfield] and I were able to stand on that podium, we thought less about medals and more about being grateful for just being here. Tom [Daley] did something similar on social media. I'm pretty confident that the boys will be stood on the podium. 20 years ago I was smiling, laughing, enjoying the moment, because you know you're going to be retired a long time. We don't know whether Tom will be walking away after this or not.

There's always going to be external pressure. I will always be thankful for the National Lottery to level the playing field. Diving has been benefitting from funding ever since Tom stood in the spotlight. Just two days ago, the women were stood here with a medal. I can't wait to see these eight pairs in a battle royale.

Noah [Williams] has been getting on with it, head down getting on with it, he's been as cool as a cucumber. Tom is such a lovely guy, he wouldn't be putting any pressure on Noah. It's going to be pressurised, this is why we're doing. I think they are a great partnership, they've been together for a while but they've known each other for a long time.

Gold Medal - Teenager Ban wins women's 10m air riflepublished at 09:40 British Summer Time 29 July

South Korea's Ban Hyojin held her nerve to win a shoot-off and secure gold in the women's 10m air rifle.

The 16-year-old, who is still at school, nearly lost top spot after a surprise final shot of 9.6, resulting in a shoot-off against China's Huang Yuting.

However, Ban fired a 10.4 to edge past Huang by only 0.1, who forced the shoot-off by posting an impressive 10.5 with her final shot.

Ban, who won with a final score of 251.8, came into the final as one of the favourites after setting an Olympic record in the qualification round.

Switzerland's Audrey Gogniat won bronze with a score of 230.3.

Also coming up at around 10:00 BST, the eventing reaches its last day of action, concluding with showjumping. The jumping is the third and final phase of eventing. This decides the team medals, while the top 25 athletes go through to the individual jumping final.

Will GB be able to take back-to-back titles for the first time since 1972? They are well placed with a lead over France in first place following the dressage and cross-country.
