He can’t believe it. The look on his face, he thought he'd lost it in that middle section. That is an incredible bottom section for the young man from Stoke on Trent.

He cant believe it, he’s punching his arms to the skies and he just shouted "come on". He faces an anxious six or seven minutes now.

How frustrating [for Liam Jegou]. You could almost see he tightened up, didn’t have the momentum on gate 23. He had a really brilliant start, but started to tie up a little.

Women's hockey: Great Britain 0-2 Australia (end of second quarter)

    Helen Richardson-Walsh MBE
Olympic gold medal winning hockey player on BBC Radio 5 Live

We thought Australia had a third there but it was ruled out. Great Britain have kept it at two, which is OK - it's still doable - but they’re really going to have to up their performance in the second half.

It is so important that your first team member gets off to a great start and that was very good from Jake Jarman. Great style, swings high off the handles, tight legs and very good technique. He is really becoming a very solid all-rounder.

Jarman got a score of 14.133 on the pommel horse.

Down below, Britain’s Evans has lost 6-1 in the first set of his second-round match against Greek eighth seed Tsitsipas.

Evans has freely admitted that he is prioritising the men’s doubles where he thinks he has a better medal shot alongside Andy Murray.

    Men's synchronised 10m platform

Daley and Williams pose with silver medalImage source, Getty Images

Britain's Tom Daley, speaking to 5 Live following his silver medal in the synchronised 10m platform earlier today alongside Noah Williams: “It was so much fun. We made it our goal to be relaxed and have fun, enjoy and soak in the atmosphere. I almost fell into the trap of what I’ve done in previous Olympics, where you kind of torture yourself through it and don’t take the time to enjoy it, but this time I was like 'I'm going to walk out, find my friends and family, wave to them and enjoy it'.”

On what he says to Williams during the action: “I don’t talk to Noah during the competition at all. Noah says 'ready' and I say 'one, two, three go' and that's pretty much what we say to each other. The only time we might have an interaction with each other is after the dive I might say ‘how was yours?’ – I’m the only one who looks at the scoreboard and I do all the maths and find out what we need, and that gives me the little boost to do well next time."

On expectations for the rest of the Games: “If you'd told me 18 months ago I'd be on the Olympics diving board I'd have laughed at you. But here we are. I want to enjoy today and see what happens, tomorrow is a new day.”

'Can Team GB do it again?'published at 16:36 British Summer Time 29 July

    Men's team gymnastics final

    Christine Still
    Gymnastics expert on BBC TV

The British guys were absolutely immaculate in qualification. They were not in great form coming into it, they didn't do too well at the Europeans. It was a bold selection to bring in two youngsters into the team but they really gelled and performed fantastically. Now we wait and see if they can do it again.

  17. hockey

'GB have had life sucked out of them'published at 16:35 British Summer Time 29 July

Women's hockey: Great Britain 0-2 Australia (second quarter)

    Helen Richardson-Walsh MBE
Olympic gold medal winning hockey player on BBC Radio 5 Live

The Aussies are loving life at the moment, playing with a smile on their faces. One of their strengths is the pressing and that’s what they are living off at the moment, they're stealing balls in midfield left, right and centre.

Great Britain are really struggling to get hold of any decent possession and those goals have sucked the life out of them even more. There's a long way to go but and they're going to really have to pull together as a team.

  18. hockey

Australia in controlpublished at 16:33 British Summer Time 29 July

Women's hockey: Great Britain 0-2 Australia (second quarter)

It's not looking good for Team GB in their second match at Paris 2024 as they trail Australia 2-0 in the second quarter.

Alice Arnott opened the scoring with Rebecca Greiner added a second for the three-time Olympic champions.

Team GB lost their opener 2-1 against Spain and a route out of Pool B is looking unlikely as things stand.

  19. gymnastics

'Whitlock always sees the bigger picture'published at 16:30 British Summer Time 29 July

    Men's team gymnastics final

    Beth Tweddle
London 2012 bronze medallist on BBC TV

Max Whitlock always sees the bigger picture. Sometimes competitions don't go his way but the way he reacts, his character, his sportsmanship, he takes the success and the disappointments in hand. He is held in such high esteem across the sport.

I don't think there is one key man for Team GB today. It will be a team effort, they truly are a team. It will take a collective effort to get a place on that podium.

'A cruel course'published at 16:29 British Summer Time 29 July

Canoe slalom - men's singles final

    Helen Reeves
Olympic bronze medallist on BBC TV

It's a cruel course. It has really ramped up from the heats with some beautiful displays of paddling.

So fast, so clean but we have seen many a trouble.
