It is absolutely sweltering here in Vaires-sur-Marne, a far cry from the torrential rain during the heats on Saturday.

Adam Burgess comfortably qualified for the final earlier although French favourite Nicolas Gestin was imperious beating the rest of the field by over three seconds to the delight of the home crowd.

When the course was explained to supporters earlier they were told it favoured right handed paddlers. Burgess is left handed.

    Team GB

British swimmer Adam Peaty picked up silver in the men's 100m breaststroke on Sunday.

The six-time Olympic medallist was so close to gold - missing out by just two hundredths of a second - and Team GB have announced the 29-year-old was "feeling unwell" and has since tested positive for Covid-19.

Peaty is due to be competing in relay events later in the swimming programme and his involvement is now uncertain.

"Adam Peaty began feeling unwell on Sunday, ahead of his men's 100m breaststroke final." Team GB said in a statement.

"In the hours after the final, his symptoms became worse and he was tested for COVID early on Monday morning. He tested positive at that point.

"He is hopeful to be back in competition for the relay events later in the swimming programme. As in any case of illness, the situation is being managed appropriately, with all usual precautions being taken to keep the wider delegation healthy."

I hope there is the possibility of a bronze medal today in the men's team event (16:30 BST). We picked up a historic team bronze in London 2012 and we have just missed out in the last two Olympic Games trying to get that bronze medal back again.

We've got a real opportunity here to try and pip Ukraine and America. Jake Jarman, Max Whitlock, Luke Whitehouse, Harry Hepworth and Joe Fraser are the boys who are going to go out today.

Judging by their qualification event they are in the shape of their life, they look incredible, such good team morale, they are out there smiling and fist pumping so they are up for it and it just looks like a very competent team.

You've got Joe who is in his peak and Max has maintained his peak. He is 31 years old now. With the likes of Harry, Jake and Luke, they are the young ones of the team but they are still very capable.

You just get filled with confidence when you watch them so I'm really excited to see how they perform.

All to play for for that bronze medal.

They will take a lot of confidence from the fact that they have got each other and there are five of them [will be] there to big each other up.

Today's eventing medal winners have returned to take their places on the podium and, with team silver medallists France among them, the crowd have stayed around and chants of 'Allez les Bleus' are ringing around Versailles.

I can't miss the opportunity to describe them as a colt following, can I?

Everyone really enjoys the noise created by banging their feet on the floor in these temporary stands.

Which is great, apart from when you're sat right at the very top, can feel the structure shaking, and aren't great with heights.

    Gulp.

Tennis: Djokovic beats Nadal to continue Olympic dream

Not sure Djokovic and Nadal will ever meet up for a coffee to discuss the good old days when they are grey and old.

But there is certainly the upmost respect between the pair of them.

The embrace at the net indicated that admiration after Djokovic secured a one-sided win against his old foe on the Roland Garros clay.

Moments later, 14-time French Open champion Nadal walked off Court Philippe Chatrier for, who knows, what might be the last time as a singles player.

Djokovic stood back and heartily applauded with the rest of the 15,000 crowd. Squint and you just about see it...

GB's Adam Burgess qualified in fourth.

'Victor left a gap and I had to take it'published at 15:21 British Summer Time 29 July

    Men's mountain bike

Team GB's Tom Pidcock speaking to BBC Sport after defending his Olympic title: "It wasn't easy. I'm keeping my glasses on for a reason. The Olympics is so special, you never give up, you give everything, and that is what I had to do.

"I knew that Victor was going to be fast in the last lap even if I couldn't get rid of him. I knew it was going to be a big fight, and he left a gap and I had to take it. That's racing. I know people might view it differently but sport is about not giving up. It is a shame that the French were booing me but you know."

On celebrating with family this time: "It is super nice that they are all here. I haven't actually seen anyone yet apart from my girlfriend. I need to go and find them."

On the puncture: "You are all used to things going well so even my mechanic wasn't ready for it. He did a super fast change in the end, my bike was perfect apart from my mistake of puncturing. I can't thank everyone enough. From being on tour and then covid too, everyone was around me and we trained perfectly for this."

On the metro into Roland Garros I heard this French mum having a conversation with her young son next to me.

I didn’t understand anything other than her mentioning Nadal and Djokovic.

Turns out it is the little man’s first ever time watching a live tennis match! What a way to start.

He’s inside Chatrier on a spare ticket with her friends, so she was just escorting him to meet them.

They’re originally from Paris but now living in Switzerland and have returned for the Games.

“Sometimes the mood among Parisians can be bad and that’s one of the reasons why we left. I didn’t want to raise my son here,” she tells me.

“But the atmosphere for the Games is completely different. It feels like a different Paris. Everyone is happy, friendly and showing unity. It’s fantastic.”

More from Team GB's Laura Collett speaking to BBC Sport after winning bronze: "I thought [gold in] Tokyo was special but this is incomparable. It has blown that out the water. Going out in front of a crowd like this and feeling like every single person is willing you on.

"It felt like Dan felt that too. He tried so hard, I am just the lucky one that gets to steer him. I owe absolutely everything to that horse. This is just a day I will never, ever forget."

What a moment for Tom Pidcock as he collects his gold medal. As the British flag raises and God Save The King is played, he looks a bit emotional.

What a day it has been so far for Team GB, with two gold medals.

Overall, GB are sitting seventh in the medal table with two golds, three silvers, three bronzes and a total of eight medals.

Team GB's Laura Collett speaking to BBC Sport after winning bronze: "I never thought this day would come. I owe absolutely everything to that horse. The team that has made it possible just to get here.

"I am so lucky that I get to be the one to go out there in an arena like that and come out with a team gold and individual bronze at an Olympics, but there are so many people involved and I just want to thank every single one of them.

"It is so many years of hard work, blood, sweat and tears. 'Emotional rollercoaster' doesn't even do it justice! or moments like this every single bad day is worth it. You can't ever give up and you can never dream too big."
