Fair play to Beth Shriever there. Could have been a bit bitter about not medalling (and probably hurting). But has a smile on her face and so cheerful. Clearly just loves BMX Racing.

One sign in the crowd just reads 'Merci Leon'. It has been special to be here.

Absolutely gutted for Beth. She has schooled them all in everything before the final. Love her attitude to racing, BMX and the Olympics. Proper Olympian. "If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster and treat those 2 imposters the same." She has just exemplified that

Poor Beth. They held them way too long at the start there, really feel for her as she smashed the heats and semis.

All the while, Gloria Gaynor's 'I will Survive' is blasted out through the speakers and the crowd, still here in huge numbers, sing along, dance and wave their own flags around enthusiastically.

Bring on the rest of the athletics!

"It is insane, with the French men going one, two and three. I have next experienced anything like it - it is what it is.

"I was late out the start, every other time it has been alright."

We could barely see what happened. It was just so unusual because we were expecting Beth to be at the front.

But I wonder if choosing that central position every single time made everyone around her very aware of what she was going to do.

Well something happened there. What an absolute shame for Bethany Shriever, who got caught up in the pack and could not recover. She ultimately finished last.

When it came down to all or nothing, the defending champion didn't have it.

Having won all six of her races on the way to the final, she will be absolutely gutted.

Huge congratulations to Saya Sakakibara, she's the in-form woman at the moment and it's a deserved gold medal for the Australian!

Unfortunately one of the French athletes, Yann Schrub, has been forced to end his race prematurely after appearing to pick up an injury early in this men's 10,000m final.

The race is more than 20 minutes in and the atmosphere has been building ever since it started, a wave of noise chasing the main pack around the purple track as we reach the business end of the race.

The noise is incredible as it sweeps us with every lap. There are more than 10 athletes still remaining in the main pack, including the sole remaining Frenchman Jimmy Gressier who is being urged on all the way by the passionate home support.
