The Olympics matter so much to every single athlete that comes here, people will do surprising things, surprising race plans to try and take the favourites by storm and that's exactly what Romania did [against Tom George & Ollie Wynne-Griffith in the semi].

That's why they beat them by about three quarters of a length.

Britain will want to get their nose in front. They will want to execute better than the other teams, make sure they still stay in the top three before they get on to the dives with more degrees of difficulty.

    Men's 1500m - round one

A season's best time of 3mins 35.83 seconds for Josh Kerr to advance.

It wasn't quite so straightforward for some of his competitors. It was tighter than Team USA's Yared Nuguse might have liked as he qualified in fifth.

Meanwhile, Australia's Olli Hoare, the 2022 Commonwealth Games champion, is out. He was back in 13th.

The sun has finally broken through at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium.

My umbrella is up, hat on and the 50+ sun lotion double coated, but after last night's spectacular storm in Paris, some wellies might have been a better choice of footwear.

With no Helen Glover to focus on today, the atmosphere is slightly quieter but it's picking up in the huge stands as we approach the four medal races.

The B, D, E and F finals have been taking place this morning as the rowing regatta enters its penultimate day.

I'm not sure lingering at the backs helps the nerves of those watching, but clearly he knows what he's doing.

The women's lightweight doubles at 11:20 BST, they're favourites for gold but this is the Olympics and all bets are off. We're set for another dramatic morning on the lake.

If you're wondering why the athletes pop into a hot tub after their dives, it's a very simple explanation.

It's essentially so the divers can stay warm inbetween dives, and also keep their muscles loose as they wait to go again.

Great Britain will seek to add to their four rowing medals on the penultimate day of the rowing competition.

They have strong medals hopes in two of the four finals:

    • Oliver Wynne-Griffiths and Tom George go in the men's pair final at 10:30 BST - they won silver at the 2023 World Championships and qualified third fastest.
    • Emily Craig and Imogen Grant are favourites to win the women's lightweight double sculls final at 11:22 - the reigning world and European champions are unbeaten since finishing 0.01 seconds short of a medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
    • There's no Team GB in the men's lightweight final at 11:02 but watch out for Ireland's Fintan McCarthy and Paul O'Donovan who are the defending champions.
    • The women's pair is the other final at 10:42 - there's no GB in that one. Chloe Brew and Rebecca Edwards finished sixth in the B final.

Leon Taylor, who is far superior to me when it comes to diving nous, reckoned the Brits looked a bit nervous during the warm-ups.

There's a quick high-five between the pair as they ready themselves for their first dive one last look and nod of the head - and there's huge cheers from the support team on the sidelines as they get themselves on to the board first up.

Not a bad way to shake off the early nerves...

Paris 2024: Team GB's Josh Kerr answers quick fire questions

Around Christmas time, Josh Kerr made a special trip to the Stade de France in Paris, home of athletics at this summer's Olympics.

Kerr wanted to stand in the stadium and picture the 1500m final. The din of the crowd, the glare of the lights, the game plan, the winning moment.

He may already be world champion, but for Kerr it has always been about Paris. Even as a boy he talked about one day becoming Olympic champion.

At 26, a career pinnacle could be just around the corner for the Scot, who barring injury or misfortune, will take part in one of the Games' mostly hotly anticipated events.

Yet despite his inexorable rise, Kerr could walk down Princes Street in his hometown of Edinburgh and, probably, go largely unnoticed.

That could all be about to change.

Aside from the the dazzling purple track, another cool feature you may have noticed this morning at the Stade de France is the lights on the high jump stands.

Lit up in blue while we await the next athlete to approach, they change to green or red depending on whether they have successfully cleared the height.

It looks great, and also ensures those on the far side of the stadium can keep up with what's going on.

GB's Morgan Lake had only seen green with two clearance at 1.83m and 1.88m, but there's a first flash of red as she makes a first attempt at 1.92m.

Tough heat for Kerrpublished at 10:07 British Summer Time 2 August

    Thomas Duncan
BBC Scotland at Stade de France

Josh Kerr has probably the toughest heat of the three to contend with first up.

American Yared Nuguse finished fifth behind him at the World Championships last year and has run a shade over three minutes 29 seconds this year.

Meanwhile, Kenyan Brian Komen has a season's best of three minutes 28.80 seconds at the Monaco Diamond League earlier this year.

That's quick. The top six in each heat advance to the semi-finals, though.
