    Modern pentathlon

The final discipline in semi-final A of the women's modern pentathlon - the laser run - has just begun.

The laser run consists of a 3,000m run, split into five 600m laps, and four visits to the shooting range.

The athlete with the most points going into the laser run - in this case Italy's Elena Micheli - starts first, with the remaining athletes starting with time handicaps – one second for every point they’re behind the leader.

Defending champion Kate French is going off second and fellow Brit Kerenza Bryson is sixth.

They need a top-nine finish in the 16-strong semi-final to reach the final (Sunday at 10:00 BST).

Team GB’s silver medallist in heptathlon Katarina Johnson-Thompson, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: “I am sleepless! The morning is jam-packed and it is really hard cause you are dosed up on caffeine.

“My analytic brain is going over ‘what if’ and with heptathlon that is always the case.

“Ultimately, it is like a pendulum swinging. On one side we have the raw emotion of finally getting the medal and on the other side we were clinging onto the gold - we were so close.

“I feel so lucky that I've had this second chance after my ruptured achilles injury. That is a big injury for an athlete to have, I am grateful I have managed to turn it around and get back on the podium."

On her celebratory meal tonight: “Pizza and pasta. I want a bottle of wine on the table and everyone sharing food feeling absolutely sick cause you’ve eaten too much – that is what I want the vibe to be like.”

What a fightback from Kyle Kothari, who delivers a great third dive that scores 81.60!

But Williams has lost quite a bit of ground with 52.70 for his reverse three and a half somersaults.

At the halfway point Williams is 11th (total 206.90) and Kothari 17th (189.00) after that costly second dive.

China's Cao Yuan (236.90) leads at the halfway point, closely followed by Yang Hao (232.05). They look like they are going to be hard to beat as their country look to take a clean sweep of all the diving golds here.

Great Britain's Noah Williams has catapulted himself to third in the standings at the end of the second round with 77.40 for his double somersault with one and a half twists from handstand.

But Kyle Kothari will not be pleased with that second dive of his, he seemed to get very close to the platform and did not hold his form well, scoring just 30.60 to sit 16th. The 26-year-old will need to improve if he is to make the top 12 to go through to the final.
