  2. Postpublished at 29 mins

    England 16-0 Samoa

Samoa's best play so far - the drop out is played short, and Jeremiah Nanai claims from their own kick to ensure they keep possession.

More of that and we might have a decent game.

    England 16-0 Samoa

Samoa, for the third time today, give away a set restart for England for an infringement in the ruck. This one just yards from their line.

    The errors pile up.

England can't take advantage as Harry Newman opts for a chip rather than a run into space, allowing Samoa to touch down behind their line for a drop-out.

  4. Postpublished at 26 mins

    England 16-0 Samoa

A sprialling, steepling England kick is spilled by Roger Tuivasa-Sheck around 15 metres from his own posts, to the delight of the home crowd.

Sums up Samoa's game so far.

I would say it is the most dangerous English back-line I have seen for a long time.

On the evidence so far, this Samoa side look much more limited than the Tonga team who toured England last year.

But you can only beat what's in front of you, and so far England have been ruthless, taking advantage of every Samoan error.

  7. Rugby royalty in attendancepublished at 15:00 Greenwich Mean Time

    Steve Sutcliffe
BBC Sport at the Brick Community Stadium, Wigan

One or two famous faces in the directors' box today. Former Great Britain and Wigan stars Martin Offiah and Denis Betts, who are royalty in these parts, are sitting about eight rows back. And by the looks of it, they are enjoying proceedings so far.

Current Wigan captain Liam Farrell is just over to his left, while moving across codes, Leicester Tigers head coach Michael Cheika is also present.

  8. 'Williams picks the hole'published at 14:59 Greenwich Mean Time

    England 16-0 Samoa

    Brian Noble
Former Great Britain coach on BBC Two

Harry Newman needs to take a bow, he comes back against the grain.

He had every right to go to ground, but Williams was on the fly and that's too hard to stop.

Williams picks the hole and it's a fair try - a great finish again.

  9. converted try

    George Williams (21 mins)

Replays show that George Williams had broken the tackle, so had ever right to rise off the turf and make the final couple of metres to score England's third try.

Credit to Harry Newman for great work in the build-up too.

It's an easy kick for Harry Smith, he's now two out of three. It ain't bad.

    England 10-0 Samoa

England get another set restart while playing in the Samoa half. The visitors are making too many mistakes.

George Williams aims to make the best of the opening with a brutal run through the middle, he thinks he has touched down near the posts. The video referee is checking for double movement however...

Samoa get their hands on the ball for the first time, and almost make it count.

Captain Jarome Luai with a dangerous carry as they pry out left. Meeting resistance, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck aims a chip kick to the right on the fifth phase - only to see it cut out.

    Still, better from the tourists.

  12. 'The penalty gives England the opportunity'published at 14:53 Greenwich Mean Time

    England 10-0 Samoa

    Brian Noble
Former Great Britain coach on BBC Two

England have identified a weakness on Samoa's right-hand-side.

The penalty gives England the opportunity. It was super execution from England. Samoa need to talk about how they handle the late plays of England.

  13. Postpublished at 18 mins

    England 10-0 Samoa

So far, this is much more the Samoa team who England beat 60-6 in the 2022 World Cup group stage, rather than the Samoa who beat England in that infamous semi-final.

  14. 'Milford creates the play for England'published at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time

    England 10-0 Samoa

    Jonathan Davies
Former Wales international on BBC Two

Anthony Milford shoots out of the line and makes the play for England.

Samoa are over chasing in the corner. Milford creates the play for England. The Samoa defenders are in big trouble.

  15. 'Fantastic start by England'published at 14:51 Greenwich Mean Time

    Paul Rowley
Salford Red Devils head coach on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

This Samoa right-edged defence was poor two years ago, and on the evidence so far, it's still poor. They look really disconnected. It's a fantastic, disciplined start by England.

  16. try

TRY - England 10-0 Samoapublished at 14:49 Greenwich Mean Time

    Matty Ashton (15 mins)

Four tests, four tries for Ashton.

Again England exploit what looks like a weak right side of the Samoan defence. Anthony Milford comes out of the defensive line to try and tackle Herbie Farnworth and ends up leaving a chasm in the back line.

Matty Ashton says thank you, and shakes off two tacklers as he pushes through the space to score England's second try of the game.

Harry Smith pulls his conversion wide this time.

  17. 'Asiata looks out of his depth'published at 14:48 Greenwich Mean Time

    England 6-0 Samoa

    Paul Rowley
Salford Red Devils head coach on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

That try was really nicely constructed by England. The whole set battered John Asiata, who missed about three tackles. Kai Pearce-Paul's been in great form all season, and Herbie Farnworth stepped inside the last two defenders. Asiata at the minute looks out of his depth.

  18. Postpublished at 14 mins

    England 6-0 Samoa

Samoa almost get in behind with a well-aimed box kick, but Harry Newman plays human barrier perfectly to allow Dom Young to make the catch.

England look well-oiled and disciplined in these early stages.

  19. 'It's a discipline issue'published at 14:46 Greenwich Mean Time

    England 6-0 Samoa

    Brian Noble
Former Great Britain coach on BBC Two

    Samoa have looked vigorous.

It's not a talent issue for them, it's a discipline issue. You cannot give a dog a bone! The coach [Ben Gardiner] will be aware about that.

  20. Postpublished at 12 mins

    England 6-0 Samoa

Samoa haven't really put together an attacking move of note with a little over an eighth of this game gone.

Coach Ben Gardiner has picked a new look side with several debutants. So far they have played like strangers.
