  2. 'I wanted to put my best foot forward'published at 13:58 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2024

    FT: England 82-0 Wales

England's Hollie Mae-Dodd, speaking to BBC Two: "I love being out with the girls and I wanted to put my best foot forward.

"We had a game to focus on and we were looking at the long term, but we wanted to focus on the Wales game.

"Coming into an England setup you have to build the new connections and doing that off-field allows you to bring it on to the field.

"Last season was unfortunate for me, in the off-season I worked hard to come back."

  3. 'I'm a bit disappointed'published at 13:56 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2024

    FT: England 82-0 Wales

Welsh head coach Tom Brindle, speaking to BBC Two: "We want to put ourselves in this position, I am a bit disappointed. It is about learning and playing against these teams.

"England were very clinical and we never got into the game - we were just chasing it. Our energy got away from us and we have to be better in those areas.

"I never doubt their effort and they put their bodes on the line. There is glimpses to take as positives.

"It is good for the England fans to watch this outcome, but the more games the better. We need to keep on trying and that's how we will keep on getting better.

"We don't know next years schedule I would likes to see more structure. We sometimes struggle and some of these girls don't play a competitive game for six weeks."

  4. 'We showed great leadership'published at 13:54 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2024

    FT: England 82-0 Wales

England head coach Stuart Barrow, speaking to BBC Two: "I’m happy with lots of different aspects of the performance. It was a different camp with so many new faces. We progressed slowly over the week and that was nice to see.

"We’ve been sloppy in the first 15 minutes of the past two Tests. So could we put together a strong set in the first 15, and we did that really well. To be so relaxed in a big stadium, shows great leadership in the group, which was really pleasing.

"There were some little individual errors. We had a clear way we wanted to play in the middle, and when we got giddy with the scoreline, we got away from that. We said at half-time: Can you go out and concentrate on what we're trying to do in the second half? And you need people in your group who can make that message stand when you've got young players."

For England, that blockbuster meeting with Australia in Las Vegas on March 1. That will be followed by a Women's Ashes series against the Aussies, continuing down under.

Wales meanwhile don't have any firm fixtures in the books yet for 2025. Some competitive fixtures are needed, it's the only way to get better.

  6. 'Today we couldn't find the answers'published at 13:47 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2024

    FT: England 82-0 Wales

Beth Dainton, Wales captain, speaking to BBC Two: "It was tough and we always knew it would be. We turned up for 80 minutes. We need to take a step back and look at our fitness, but I couldn’t be any prouder. We didn’t have much hand on ball, and today we couldn’t find the answers.

"Credit to England, they were fantastic. I’m sure we will come back stronger. For us it’s a learning curve. We’re building. It’ll make people want to work harder."

England's player of the match Anna Davies, speaking to BBC Two: "I think that's what we have been asked as a group, it's a new group and yesterday things started to click.

"Today was about doing a job as a team. I think Stu [Stuart Barrow] will be happy - I hope so!

"I feels comfortable in this team, it is about doing a job and I know everyone on the pitch does their job so it is relaxing in a way."

On Hollie-Mae Dodd: "She looks in good shape and she is so strong. I didn't know Hollie before this camp and she is so down to earth and I have loved getting to know her."

On Isabel Rowe: "I am so proud of her. That's the best I have seen her play, she looks so calm and in control."

On Las Vegas: "We keep working hard and we push those standards. I want to be on the plane and I need to keep working hard in this off season."

Well, the saving grace from a Welsh perspective is that their performance today didn't happen in a World Cup qualifier or in the tournament proper.

They came close to a try in the first half, but looked totally off the pace after the break, lacking both fitness and belief.

A lot of work needed before the 2026 tournament in Australia and Papua New Guinea.

  9. 'Women's rugby league is a million miles better than it's ever been'published at 13:39 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2024

    FT: England 82-0 Wales

    Steve Sutcliffe
    BBC Sport at Headingley, Leeds

England's Jodie Cunningham says that women's rugby league is in the best shape it has ever been "by a million miles".

The match is viewed as invaluable preparation for the Lionesses, who are starting to build towards a unique chance to showcase the British game when they face Australia in Las Vegas next March.

And captain Cunningham, 32, believes that the opportunities and development now present in the women's game are in stark contrast to when she made her international bow in 2009.

"If you compare what we get now, what it looks like, the product on the field from any of the time I've been in the squad, the progress is just phenomenal," she told BBC Sport.

"It is [the best it's ever been] by a million miles.

"People say: 'You are a generation too early and think of what you are going to miss out on.' I feel really grateful and appreciate the development year on year because I've seen what it was like when nobody cared, we got no funding and kits didn't fit and there were no young girls in the crowd because nobody knew about it."

A great performance from England there is things they can learn from, but you can only beat what's in front of you.

Wales are at the stage where they're still developing, but it has been a harsh lesson.

A phenomenal showing from England, not always perfect in defence but ruthless in attack.

This is their new record margin of victory, their new record points total in a women's international, and a new individual record for most tries in a match - Anna Davies, with five.

    Eboni Partington deserves that.

Her power and strength took her through a tiring Welsh defence.

She has plenty of pace to finish the job off, she has played very well.

CONVERTED TRY - England 82-0 Walespublished at 13:32 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2024

    Eboni Partington (78 mins)

    End to end!

Straight from the handover, Eboni Partington is laid up and she runs through the Welsh defence and three-quarters the length of the field to score. Sensational from the York player to have that pace and stamina so late in the game.

Izzy Rowe adds two more in front of the posts.

It has been a good perfromance from England, but there's been one or two errors that need to be wiped out.

If England are going to challenge New Zealand or Australia they need to tidy those errors up.

A rare chance for Wales here, as Amelia Brown spills a bouncing ball. That should have been a simple take.

Can the Welsh do anything from the scrum?
