It wasn't a performance that Wigan can say Saints gave to them. Saints were instrumental and there were some fantastic standout performances. I thought Phoebe Hook was exceptional in trying to give this St Helens side some hope.

Wigan towards the back end of the game were slightly better.

The big turning point of the game is when Faye Gaskin kicks it and manages to split the Wigan backline but there is no chasing defence. Wigan go to the other end of the field on the next set, they manage to get the repeat effort after bundling Rebecca Rotheram into the in goal area and manage pause points. I think that's been the difference tonight.

Wigan were without error and Saints very much took a lot of Isabel Rowe's and Jenna Foubister's games away from them in terms of moving the ball around and trying to exploit and play on the front foot.

Full credit to Saints, another great game and as a neutral I think it was a fantastic final, one that's summed up the year that Wigan have just had that extra edge on most teams in most occasions.

    FT: Wigan 16-12 St Helens

St Helens head coach Craig Richards told Sky Sports:

"I thought Wigan were fantastic. They got us in little areas where we didn't turn up., I'm really proud of the girls, they've worked hard all season and we were close but weren't quite there.

"Rugby league is a great game. At times if you switch off you get caught out and we did.

"The girls were so courageous and we'll go away, dust ourselves down and go again."

  6. 'I'm speechless' - Wigan's Daviespublished at 19:36 BST 5 October

    FT: Wigan 16-12 St Helens

Wigan Warriors winger Anna Davies told Sky Sports:

"I am speechless because it feels amazing. It's been a journey. If you'd have said to me at the start of this year this would happen I wouldn't have believed you.

"At half-time I didn't think we could do it at all. I thought we might be able to do something like this next year from watching the girls develop but the fact we've done it in 2025 is something I didn't expect.

"We needed to build pressure. In the first half we let the pressure go. We talked about it half-time about getting the ball and keeping possession."

A determined and improved showing in the second period by the Cherry and Whites has earned them a comeback victory against their old foes to win the Grand Final and wrap up a historic treble.

Anna Davies' double either side of the break and Molly Jones' two tries, within the space of a few minutes of each other, were decisive for Wigan although it was the whole 17 that were on the top of their game after the interval.Spare a thought for Saints' Phoebe Hook, whose two tries - particularly the second - were skillful, determined and accomplished - she was excellent all night.

It's been a terrific 80 minutes of rugby league and here come the presentations...

If Saints are going to go on and win this game then this is the time when they've got to be squeaky clean defensively.

I think that whole set was chaotic and Wigan were trying to scramble. Phoebe Hook manages to get it down and she's done really well. There were loads of Wigan defenders around.

    A strong try.

    Phoebe Hook

Wow - by the finest of margins - Phoebe Hook has her second of the night.

We've got ourselves a grandstand finish here!

It's exceptional work by Hook who weaves inside three players before getting the ball down under two challenges and, after an on-field call of try is given, video referee Liam Rush adjudges that the belly of the ball is on the line.

    Incredible finish here.

Saints think they have a lifeline - an on-field try has been given!

A bit of ill-discipline from Isabel Rowe who holds on for a little too long and Saints have a set of six inside the Wigan half.

    Wigan 16-8 St Helens

    Armani Sharrock

There's been a couple of unforced errors so Saints have not had the opportunity to build the pressure that we've seen them build in the back end of the second half.

I think they've been their own worst enemy at times, loose balls, unsuccessful passes that haven't quite landed or selecting the wrong option.

Saints are not giving up but they have been up against an improved and polished second half showing by their old foes.

On the last play, the ball goes back to Gaskin and she dummies a kick but wing Dani McGifford is held up five yards short and Wigan earn themselves a turnover.

Saints prop Vicky Whitfield threatens to break through but she is stopped in her tracks before Faye Gaskin's kick ends up going straight to Wigan's Shaniah Power and the Cherry and Whites can clear their lines up field.

    Wigan 16-8 St Helens

Wigan are just beginning to dominate the territory following another good kick chase.

Saints aren't out of this Grand Final by any means however and, on the last play of their set, Faye Gaskin decides to go high.

It is expertly dropped out the sky by Eva Hunter though as referee Tara Jones calls time off while Mary Coleman receives some treatment on the field by the team doctor.
