For the Saints try they did really well to exploit that space and taking it nice and tight to the line and allows the numbers to stop the Wigan defenders pushing up.

And they are - Dani McGifford's 20th try of the 2025 Super League season!

She gets in on the outside of Anna Davies to dive over in the left corner.

Faye Gaskin misses the conversion to go in front - we're all-square here!

It was good work there, the momentum was building and we could see that a Wigan try was coming sooner rather than later.

I'm glad that Anna Davies has managed to get over on that side. I think we've been unlucky a couple of times especially with Grace Banks' try being ruled out.

Great quick hands from Wigan over the right hand side and Anna Davies crashes over past Saints' Dani McGifford and Rachael Woosey to open the scoring for the Cherry and Whites.

Wigan just need to tighten up around that defensive area but it's really pleasing sign from Saints that so many bodies are in the frame and are asking questions of that Wigan backline.

Saints' Rebecca Rotheram has had a good start so far and she stops Woman of Steel nominee Jenna Foubister in her tracks after threatening to race clear half-way.

    This should be good game.

When we looked at this Saints side as a team we pointed out a few big players.

Katie Mottershead at nine controls them and she brings a good pace to the game. Channy Crowl as well and Jodie Cunningham in the halfs. So they've got some big names who have quite a bit of experience especially in the Grand Finals.

  20. Postpublished at 17:42 BST 5 October

    Wigan 0-0 St Helens

An excellent race to the line at the other end by Dani McGifford and Saints look like they are going to break an early deadlock but terrific scrambling defending from Wigan sees her taken out of bounds.

Lively start to this Grand Final.
