    Hull KR 16-6 St Helens

Saints lose the ball early into their attack and that does them no favours.

Old Trafford is getting ever nearer for the Robins.

    Interesting points from David, there.

We have to remember that Hull KR finished 10 points ahead of St Helens in the regular season. Fifth is not what we expect from Saints.

Some of Saints' big signings don't share the self belief and self control of the teams of the past. Instead they need to have the confidence of Scully, Jointy, Kieran etc. who knew the team can win without taking stupid risks and giving penalties away.

    Oliver Gildart

    Daylight again for Hull KR.

Mikey Lewis' monster kick is a nightmare for the defence, Deon Cross can't take it cleanly, Joe Burgess touches it back and Oliver Gildart picks it up cleanly and gleefully dives over by the corner flag.

But Rhyse Martin is short with his attempt at a conversion.

Oliver Gildart touches the ball down. Referee Liam Moore signals a try.

    But we are going upstairs.

But Peta Hiku makes up for it with a massive hit on Jack Welsby and Saints cough up the ball.

We're only human and these guys will get frustrated and sometimes it's hard to stop what's coming out of your mouth.

But those are the rules we play. Saints are back in the arm wrestle and are going to have their say now.

There's only six points in it.

That is poor from Peta Hiku.

Back chat from him to the referee as a penalty is conceded and he and his team-mates are marched back 10 yards.

St Helens begin inside the Hull KR half.

  9. Who's winning this?published at 60 mins

    Hull KR 12-6 St Helens

Three quarters of the way through this game and only one converted try between the teams. Just how we love play-off rugby league.

Which way is it going though?

Thumbs up for Hull KR, down for St Helens.

    Hull KR 12-6 St Helens

Mikey Lewis is held up just short. Big effort from St Helens to do that.

But they are around 90 metres from the opposition try-line as they start their set.

  11. captains challenge

    Captain's Challengepublished at 56 mins

    Hull KR 12-6 St Helens

And just like St Helens in the opening period, Hull KR are successful with their challenge.

Jared Waerea-Hargreaves had the ball knocked out of his grasp illegally by two Saints defenders.

Big New Zealand prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves is adjudged to have lost the ball forward.

But his team are using their captain's challenge.

  13. MISSED PENALTYpublished at 55 mins

    Hull KR 12-6 St Helens

Surprisingly, Rhyse Martin decides to take the kick and he pulls the ball badly wide of the sticks.

    A let-off for Saints.

  14. PENALTYpublished at 18:53 BST 4 October

    Hull KR 12-6 St Helens

Hull KR forward Rhyse Martin has his head struck by Shane Wright's knee and needs a bit of treatment.

A penalty is given for the Robins for Wright's initial high swipe towards Martin's head.

    Hull KR 12-6 St Helens

A couple of cheap penalties given away by St Helens.

That can suck the life out of any forward momentum they were trying to generate.

    Hull KR 12-6 St Helens

    Ooh, that is close!

An absolute teaser of a kick from Jack Welsby on the last tackle and it's brilliantly caught by Harry Robertson a couple of yards from the tryline, but not close enough to carry him over.

Did Tyrone May obstruct him illegally?

Not given by the referee, though. And Hull KR can breathe a sigh of relief.

    Hull KR 12-6 St Helens

For the first time all night, St Helens have a bit of a spring in their step.

And Hull KR are starting to feel a modicum of pressure as Elliot Minchella gets his play the ball wrong.

Now Saints have the ball without being turned over on the last tackle.

  18. Postpublished at 47 mins

Mikey Lewis kicks the ball out on the full. St Helens have welcome position to attack.

Suddenly the game has a totally different complexion.

Deon Cross scores a try for St Helens at Hull KRImage source, SWPix

We expected St Helens to come out and play their structured game, take their tackles, but no they're looking for opportunities.

I said it before, 12 points is not enough. Not against a St Helens side with this much talent in the team.

  20. converted try

CONVERTED TRY: Hull KR 12-6 St Helenspublished at 45 mins

    Deon Cross, con Jonny Lomax

    St Helens celebrateImage source, SWPix

    From nowhere...

Their first decent possession in Hull KR territory and Saints come up with a bit of magic.

Matt Whitley works it out to Deon Cross and the winger sells the dummy to on-rushing full-back Arthur Mourgue, who 100% buys it, and runs it over.

    Great stuff!

And then via the inside of the goalpost, Jonny Lomax converts it. GAME ON!
