Plymouth Albion target Cornish Pirates and Moseley wins

James Shanahan's side has yet to win a league game this season and are bottom of the Championship

Plymouth Albion head coach James Shanahan says the club's next two home games are key to their chances of staying in the Championship.

Albion host South West rivals Cornish Pirates on 27 December while Moseley visit the Brickfields on 10 January.

Those sides are immediately above bottom-of-the-table Albion.

"We need to get that first win in the league and the Moseley and Pirates games are massive for us because they're just above us," Shanahan said.

Plymouth also face a daunting trip to high-flying Bristol on New Year's Day as well as going to Nottingham on 17 January.

"I'd like a minimum of two wins - the two home games," Shanahan told BBC Radio Devon.

"I want to put in a good performance against Bristol and, if we've done that, we can go to Nottingham with a lot of confidence and maybe get a good result there as well.

"There're 14 games to go and a lot of points on offer. I'll carry on fighting and so will my players."

Shanahan and retired from playing at the start of this month.

His side have won just one game this season - a last month - and brought in Exeter forward James Scaysbrook as defensive coach earlier this month.

But Shanahan remains confident that relegation to National One can be avoided.

"We're not hiding away from it, we know it's there, but we're not going to dwell on it," he said.

"We have to be positive. I really believe the squad we've got and the coaches we have, that we can turn it around."
