Jersey had never before gone three Championship games unbeaten

Jersey made it three consecutive league games unbeaten for the first time in their short Championship history, thanks to a hard-fought draw at Rotherham Titans.

The hosts led 7-3 at the break after Max Argyle's pushover try.

A penalty try and Mark McCrea's touchdown saw Jersey move ahead but a drop-goal and a penalty try of their own put Titans back in front.

However, Aaron Penberthy's late penalty squared the game.

Rotherham had large amounts of possession in a feisty encounter which saw four yellow cards dished out by referee Matthew O'Grady.

The islanders went ahead inside three minutes through Penberthy's penalty after Titans were penalised for wheeling the scrum, but the Yorkshire side were soon in the lead when flanker Argyle crashed over the line from the driving maul.

Jersey were reduced to 14 men with lock Dave Markham shown yellow for an infringement at the ruck, but the islanders survived the 10 minutes unscathed and then found themselves with a man advantage when Rotherham winger Curtis Wilson was sin-binned for an illegal tackle.

The visitors started brightly after the break and were ahead when the referee awarded the first penalty try of the afternoon as Penberthy's shirt was pulled before he got the ball when it looked like he was poised to score. McKinney was shown yellow.

Titans were back level though thanks to Jordan Davies' penalty, but McCrea burst through to score between the posts for the second week in a row to give Jersey a 17-10 advantage.

Davies' successful drop-goal narrowed the deficit before a converted penalty try after pressure on the line put the hosts 20-17 ahead. Argentina international forward Martin Garcia-Veiga had been sent to the sin-bin moments before as Jersey desperately defended.

There will still time though for the Channel Island side to extend their unbeaten run, and with the minutes ticking away Penberthy made no mistake with his penalty to ensure the points were shared.
