Mike Coman will captain Edinburgh for another year

Edinburgh Rugby captain Mike Coman has extended his contract with the club until May 2016.

The former New Zealand junior internationalist joined Edinburgh in 2013 and has made 28 appearances for the club.

Coman's highlight of the season included the 1872 Cup win over Glasgow Warriors, and progressing in Europe.

"I just want to keep building on this season, making sure we're consistently a top six team," Coman said.

"I enjoy the responsibility of being captain - although there are other duties off the field, it helps me focus on my game, and we've a great leadership group here at Edinburgh, so the support is always there."

The 27-year-old back row led Edinburgh to a bonus-point away victory over Treviso in the Pro12 at the weekend, boosting the team's top six bid.

"We had a bit of a slow start to the season but the team's coming together really well and results are coming over time. The boys are working hard and the systems are coming together," Coman said.

Edinburgh return to league action on 28 March, when they visit Scarlets, before the European Challenge Cup quarter-final against London Irish on 5 April.
