Jersey: Samisoni Fisilau & James Freeman sign new contracts

James Freeman and Samisoni Fisilau's deals take Jersey's number of contracted players for next season up to 14

Jersey's Tonga international scrum-half Samisoni Fisilau and back-row James Freeman have agreed new contracts for the 2016-17 season.

Fisilau, 28, joined the club in January 2015 and has played 17 times for the club, scoring two tries.

He played three times as a replacement for Tonga at the 2015 World Cup and has won 18 caps for his country.

Freeman, 25, was a summer signing from Loughborough Students and has scored four tries for the island side.

"Coming here this year has been a big challenge and one I've felt I've taken on board," Freeman told BBC Radio Jersey.

"For places to push on, Jersey's up there with one of the best in the Championship. I'm keen to get on board with it."

Fisilau missed the start of the season as he was on World Cup duty, but has featured in 10 games since returning to the island.

"Sami brings calm and control at scrum-half," Jersey head coach Harvey Biljon said. "Even though he has put in some fantastic performances during his time with Jersey, I believe we are yet to see his best rugby.

"Signing James for another year means we will have real depth and competition for places in the back row. James brings great ball-carrying ability and solid defence to the team, and 2016-17 will be a big year for him."
