The gap between Jersey and Nottingham was never greater than seven points during the game

Lawrence Rayner's conversion with the last kick of the game gave Nottingham a dramatic win over Jersey at St Peter.

The Reds had been 21-15 ahead going into the final play after tries from Nick Selway (2) and Sami Fisilau.

But Tom Heard's try put the Green and Whites a single point behind before Rayner held his nerve to slot between the posts.

Full-back Billy Robinson and hooker Jimmy Stevens had earlier gone over for Nottingham in a topsy-turvy encounter.

The game was the first to be played under the newly-upgraded floodlights at St Peter, with both sides keen to bounce back from losses last time out.

The visitors went ahead when Robinson darted through, but when Nottingham winger Calum Hall was shown yellow for a deliberate knock-on Jersey made the man advantage count and Tonga international scrum-half Fisilau's converted try levelled the scores.

Rayner's penalty gave Nottingham a narrow advantage again before hooker Selway crashed over from a maul to give Jersey a 14-10 half-time lead.

The Green and Whites were back ahead soon after the restart with Stevens, on his first start of the season, powering over after peeling away from a maul.

The Reds hit straight back though, in a carbon copy at the other end, with Selway credited with his second of the match from the rolling maul.

Man-of-the-match Sam Katz converted to give his side a six-point lead.

It stayed that way until the closing seconds, when, with no time left to kick to the corner, a quickly taken penalty saw Heard go over and fly-half Rayner coolly convert for the win.
