Sale secured a second Premiership win of the season in a thrilling game of seven tries against Leicester.

Peter Betham's two tries saw Leicester lead 14-7 after Mike Phillips' score.

Former Tiger Paolo Odogwu and Johnny Leota powered Sale into a 24-20 half-time lead, with Halani Aulika adding a bonus-point fourth try after the break.

Adam Thompstone's score brought Leicester within a point after Aulika was sin-binned but Will Addison's late penalty sealed the win for the Sharks.

The win was Sale's 200th in the Premiership and featured a first half of 44 points, with the two sides exchanging five tries within the first 30 minutes.

Former Wales scrum-half Phillips claimed the first with a quick break through Leicester's defence, but Australian centre Betham scored two of his own in quick succession.

Sale came out fighting and Leicester saw a 17-7 lead turned into a 24-17 deficit in the space of 14 minutes.

Twice the boot of Leicester fly-half Owen Williams twice reduced the lead to a point, but prop Aulika's second try in as many weeks kept Sale ahead after the break.

The Tongan was sin-binned for a side entry at the maul as Leicester were held short of the line.

But despite Thompstone's impressive try in the corner while Sale were a man short, the home side held firm and took their chances off the tee.

Sale director of rugby Steve Diamond told BBC Radio Manchester:

"Leicester are obviously a top side and I think we did well to beat them in the end.

"We could've had the bonus-point score before half-time had a decision gone our way.

"To come out of a game where we didn't get a scrum all day, you've got to be delighted. We gave five penalties away on our put-in today, which is unheard of with our scrum."

Leicester director of rugby Richard Cockerill told BBC Radio Leicester:

"We took steps forward last week (beating Bath at home), but two steps backwards this week.

"We all have a responsibility and things need to change quickly.

"It's a big period for us now. We've got to flick the switch and keep the switch on longer."
