Cornish Pirates coach Louis Tonkin says fly-half Bruce Houston has made a great start to his time at the club.

The 24-year-old former Ireland youth player moved to the Championship side last month and has kicked 33 points in his first two appearances.

He converted five of Pirates' six tries in their 46-24 win at Ampthill in the Championship on Saturday.

"He's certainly done a great job, he's come in and kicked a lot of impressive points," Tonkin told BBC Cornwall.

"He's really calm under pressure, he's leading really well, which is difficult for someone to do having come in so late in our preparations.

"But he's settled in really well and the sky's the limit for that young man."

Houston, who most recently played for Scottish side Heriot's, says he has enjoyed his first month at the Penzance-based club.

"I'm absolutely loving it so far," Houston told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"I'm just very lucky that the boys are scoring quite a few tries and I'm able to put the ball between the posts.

"The boys have been so welcoming and warm so I can't complain.

"We've got some massive forwards, that really helps us and helps the backs get a good platform as well, so they're giving us a great platform."
