    Bath 20-12 Lyon

Another pinpoint crossfield kick from Finn Russell finds touch deep in the Lyon 22.

Charlie Ewels wins the lineout turnover and Bath are attacking the line again.

But they make a mess of it and Lyon have the scrum.

  2. 'Just what Lyon needed'published at 21:14 British Summer Time 23 May

    It's just what Lyon needed.

It's the first time in the game when their forwards have actually took on the Bath forwards in a tight arm wrestle and won it.

That will be refreshing for them and they'll be thinking we can do it again.

Some powerful carries take Lyon deep into the Bath half before spreading play out to the right touchline.

Davit Niniashvili almost sneaks through, but stumbles out of the tackle.

Lyon recycle and Arno Botha barges his way over.

Great response - and much needed! Léo Berdeu slots the extras.

  4. Penalty - Bath 20-5 Lyonpublished at 42 min

    Finn Russell

Bath straight into Lyon territory and the French side have come offside.

Easy decision here and Finn Russell goes for the posts - after running a little time off the clock, of course.

It's bang in front 30 metres out and over it sails.

The lead climbs to three scores.

JvG will not be too happy with the last 10 mins or so. Bath need to come out fully up for it from the first play of the second half.

  6. 'Anything can happen'published at 21:09 British Summer Time 23 May

    Bath 17-5 Lyon

    Gareth Chilcott
Ex-England and Bath prop on BBC Radio Bristol

Anything can happen in this second half, it's 40 minutes of rugby.

Lyon will be saying if we're going to get into this game then we've got to take our chances and Bath will be saying how are we not miles ahead?

But if Lyon score first in the second half then the game is in a little bit of danger.

  7. Kick-offpublished at 21:07 British Summer Time 23 May

    Bath 17-5 Lyon

Johann van Graan may well have had a few choice words for his players at the break - particularly over their discipline.

The game looked to be there's for the taking, and they're fortunate Lyon could not take advantage of those two yellow cards.

Hollie Davidson gets us under way for the second half.

There's a change of officials on the sidelines after assistant referee Owen Cross is forced off with a calf injury.

Lyon have four more minutes before Bath return to full strength.

No way could Underhill's card have been red. Clearly wrapped with both arms, tackled player was falling rapidly, no time to adjust. Excellent application of the laws by the referee team.

After a stuttering, cagey start Bath had seemed to turn the momentum their way with Tom Dunn's try. Max Ojomoh's stylish turn to dot down for their second not long after put their tails up and they were starting to run away.

But two yellow cards in six minutes - one lucky not to have been red - could have cost Bath dearly had it not been for Lyon's lack of ruthlessness in front of the try line.

They saw one try scratched off for a penalty in the build-up and could not take any points despite being within a sniff of Bath's line before the break.

Bath have arguably one of the strongest benches in European rugby at their disposal and with the likes of Guy Pepper, Thomas du Toit, Alfie Barbeary and Ross Molony among those who could come on in the second half, Lyon might be ruing not capitalising when they had the numerical advantage on their side.

  10. 'Bath's coaches will be furious with ill-discipline'published at 20:58 British Summer Time 23 May

    HT: Bath 17-5 Lyon

    Gareth Chilcott
Ex-England and Bath prop on BBC Radio Bristol

What are Bath doing? Why are they self-destructing like this?

    Luckily they are 17-5 up.

They've got this game won really and I know that seems a ridiculous thing to say but really they should be just clawing away the points now.

Lyon look like they are struggling to really get back into this game and the last thing you want to do is to give them chances by going men down and by lack of discipline and giving them penalties.

Bath's coaches will be furious with their discipline because it's undermining what they are trying to do.

Utterly appalling decision not to send off Underhill, what's the point of going on about player safety?

    Rich

Want English teams as European champions but how Underhill escaped a red is beyond me. That was miles worse than Sam Cane’s famous final red for the All Blacks.

    Daniel, London

Agree folks? Hit the thumbs... thumbs up for red card, thumbs down for yellow...

    Bath 17-5 Lyon

Lyon head coach Karim Ghezal does not look a happy man as he marches down the tunnel.

And you can understand why. They've not had the rub of the green when it comes to decisions.

Bath really should have lost Sam Underhill for the rest of the game rather than 10 minutes.

But the Premiership leaders won't care. They've not been at their best, but clinical when it mattered.

And 40 minutes away from trophy number two of the season.

Lyon tap and go instead of kicking for the posts, but it comes to nought.

    And that's the half.

  14. Postpublished at 40 min

    Bath 17-5 Lyon

Lyon pressing, just a few metres out from the line.

Bath are called offside as the French go through the phases.

A second penalty advantage for offside against Charlie Ewels.

That could have been a penalty try and ANOTHER yellow.

  15. Postpublished at 39 min

    Bath 17-5 Lyon

It's all a bit scrappy as Lyon force things in search of a response while Bath are reduced in numbers.

Sam Underhill returns after his spell in the bin - he's passed his HIA. Bath back up to 14.

He's greeted by plenty of whistles from the Lyon supporters.

What is going on with Bath!?

There was no need for both of them [yellow cards].

Bath have been the better side. There's no evidence from what I've seen tonight that Lyon will beat them.

Hold on, the TMO is looking at this.

Hollie Davidson calls obstruction at the back of the lineout on Tom Dunn before Ethan Dumortier's break for the line.

    And it's chalked off.
